Oh, my . . this just keeps getting funnier. Vince did not have a good day with his budgeting efforts. I, on the other hand, didn’t spend a dime!
Vince called right before lunch:
Vince: Do you need anything from the grocery store?
Me: No.
Vince: Nothing??
Me: Vince . . I’m trying to use what we have here.
Vince: Well, I need bananas so I’m going to the store.
Later he called:
Vince: Aldi has fajita meat for half price. Do you want some?
Me: No, I’m trying to use what we have here (three BIG freezers, one small freezer, three fridge freezers packed totally full)
Vince: Half price? I’m getting some. How many should I get?
Me: However many you think you can put in the freezer!
I did not need any fresh veggies but . . what does need have to do with it when Vince is shopping?
Eggplants (2), broccoli, avocados (6 . . I already had 3 here), colored peppers (which I never buy because they’re more expensive) and 5 packs of fajita meat! He also bought flour and corn tortillas, almond milk, bananas and who knows what else. He spent about $67 total. We didn’t need any of that but I will use it.
Our internet is so bad here. We have WeBoost and it helps a little but since our TV and cell phones depend on the internet, we really need better but .. there is no better! Vince called WeBoost today to talk to them to see if there’s anything else we can do and they recommended an inside antenna to boost the booster, which is where the internet comes into the house, which is in the master bedroom on the far end of the house so . . he paid $5 for an app to check our speed the strength of the cell signal coming into the living room and then he ordered the antenna for $75.
Now . . what I’m thinking is that his spending hasn’t even slowed down but yet I haven’t bought anything except yesterday I bought 1/4 tank of gas in my car . . on a freezing cold day . . because I thought I was going to Abilene today.
I’m so loving this and I’m just hardheaded enough to not spend a dime just to prove to him that I can do it and he cannot.

Hahahaha!! Such fun! I love reading about your adventures!! 🙂 I just came home from Aldi (quick visit after quilt guild) and they didn’t even have bananas!! I really had my heart set on a banana, and with no grocery stores close, I guess I’ll be without for a while longer….

It really is funny! Why don’t you tell him he can check Internet speed on speedtest.net for free? No need to pay for an app. I feel your pain though about the Internet service…it’s the same here…5Mbps tops unless you want to pay an arm & a leg and then I’m not sure we could actually get better.

I’m the same way – I’ll do without just to prove a point. 🙂

But does he remember that he is spending money? My hubby puts stuff on the credit card, which I have been trying to wean him from, and then when the bill comes in he insists that he hasn’t used the card at all.
Getting good giggles to see that Vince is doing so well with the budget he came up with.

One thing I always do….cold or hot weather….keep the van full of gas. Just something I have always done. When my folks traveled before the end of the day their van was filled up for a fresh start the next day. Have a great year.

This was my day yesterday! I sent E off with a very small, detailed list. He came home with 2 huge packages of hamburger. 4 huge packs of chicken. The stuff on the list and a few more things…….my freezer is full to the max! What budget? But he did good, the savings were incredible. Time for him to find a new shop project. Retirement is wonderful! Can’t wait to compare war stories. 🙂

Vince just cannot pass up a bargain … even for things he doesn’t need!
