You may remember that just as we were ready to leave the house on our 10 day trip, the ice maker dumped without the ice bucket in the freezer and we had to take everything out of the freezer . . here’s the blog post . . no need telling that story all over again!
Anyway, we got home yesterday afternoon and one rubber glove was sprawled out in the kitchen floor. Was it under the freezer? Had it been inside the freezer? I have no idea but look how it landed.
Honest . . I did not touch that glove. That’s exactly how it was when I saw it in the floor. I take that as a sign that 2018 is going to be a wonderful year! Maybe I’ll leave it right where it is for all of 2018 as a reminder . . or maybe I’ll print this picture and hang it where I see it daily.
Isn’t that glove’s position the funniest thing?
The rest of this story is that even after taking the tray out of the freezer and raking out the ice that was behind it, there must have been some smidgen of ice that kept the freezer door from sealing all the way so for 10 days, it was so very close to being shut that nothing inside had defrosted but not so close to being shut that the ice maker didn’t pour water down the back of the freezer and make a huge frozen clump so that I could barely open the freezer door and then we had to take everything out again.
I know there are folks who love those pull out drawer freezers but I am not one of them. Some day I’m going to have a side by side fridge/freezer again and a top load washer . . just not in 2018 because we’re on our practice for retirement budget and, according to Vince, I shouldn’t even need to buy many groceries in 2018. Poor Vince! 🙂

That glove position is quite amazing!! It looks like it was positioned like that but I believe you when you say you didn’t touch it. My niece has a fridge like yours with the drawer freezer and I’ve never figured out why anyone would want one of those. I like my side by side and top loader too! Maybe you can sneak one of them into 2018’s budget.

You’re the first person I’ve found that likes a side by side fridge-freezer. We’re military & move a lot so we usually rent, and for the second time we’ve got a side by side. We absolutely detest it! I can’t store nearly as much in there as I can with a regular fridge. What’s the secret? I’m very thankful we have our own freezer in the garage.

Yep I’m with you on both things. My DD says I’m just old and don’t like changes. Well maybe so but I like what I like. Double door ref/freezer and too loading washer, and dishwasher that doesn’t take hours to wash dishes.

I don’t like my bottom freezer refrigerator!

I had a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer many years ago and hated it. Since then I’ve stuck with refrigerators with the freezer at the top. I also have stayed with top-loading washing machines, but the one I currently have does not have a soak cycle. I miss that! Next time I’ll pay more attention to the features. Now all top-loading washers have lids that automatically lock. That’s a pain in the “you know what” and totally unnecessary in my household.

Oh another side by side Fridge lover. I LOVE mine and think they are great – its my 3rd one as 2 we left in houses we sold. So we moved in here and there was a top freezer fridge combo… So I went over to Home Depot and bought a new one .. WE just love it …
Of course we have a freezer for the BIG stuff that we buy like turkeys or when he gets an Elk .. Lots of veggies from the garden in one of them .. the other was supposed to be for the Elk we didn’t get so it has milk jugs full of water, just in case one never knows ya know .. Actually I use them during the summer time for my redneck cooler with fan and it does a great job of cooling the house off …

Love our bottom freezer. But the ice maker does not dump into it either.

Sold house in Florida with brand new Samsung fridge w/bottom freezer drawer with all the bells & whistles , I hated that thing with a passion. New house here in Texas Hill Country has my brand new most favorite SubZero side by side which I’ve had before. Love love that fridge & a Top Loading washer too. Set in my ways, told husband if he so much as said any word whatsoever about either, he’d be sleeping out in the shop in his boat ! ! He picked out the Samsung & that front loading washing machine for Florida fishing house…Needless to say, he admitted that both of them sucked !!

When we rebuilt after the wildfires,we put two fridges in the kitchen. Husband didn’t want them sticking out in the isle.one was to service the dining table, one for the prep area. My choices were limited because of size.
Side by side samsung for prep, freezer bottom with double door top for table service.
Filters make us replace them every 6 months, but they actually stop making ice at 4mns until you replace the filters. We have incomming filters on house, plus water filters systems in house. Replacing water filters on both fridges amounts to $60+ x 3 x 2 so that is $360 more a year. We had to glue the plastic door shelves on to the bottom freezer doors to keep stuff from falling out. The stainlessteel doors dent in small dents that catch your eye.
We also have front loading washer like i had used before but about every 4th or 5th day i have to clean the inside door rubber because of the smell and the door has to be left open when not in use. Never had that problem with the old washer. Its not all love here!

I’m with you on the top loading washing machine, but not the side by side fridge. I don’t like ours – came with the house when we bought it. I don’t think you can store as much and if you have something wide, forget it. My next fridge (which will probably be years from now – we don’t replace unless things break) won’t have an ice maker. I detest that thing. It takes up room, you have to reach in to get the ice to come out, and sometimes ice randomly falls on the floor.
