Can they still be Christmas cookies if the shapes aren’t Christmas related?
No, I never did find my springerle molds. I’m not even looking for them any more but I knew someone would ask.
Every year I try to talk myself out of making Christmas cutout cookies. They’re so much trouble and by the time I make the dough, put it in the fridge, roll it out, put it back in the fridge, bake the cookies, let the cookies cool, make the icing, use different bowls for different colors . . I’m tired and the kitchen is a mess and I say I’m not doing it again. But, if I don’t do it again, as soon as Christmas is past, I’m wishing I had done them so . . I do them. But, yesterday I was just not in the mood for Santa Claus and reindeer and stars. So, I made Texas and fleur-de-lis and that’s it.
The fleur-de-lis got decorated with white icing and purple/green/gold sprinkles and the Texas cookies got green icing because I wish my part of Texas was green . . but it’s not.
There are more than two, though I did only bake half the dough. I’ll bake the rest of them today or tomorrow. My cookies are never pretty but they are very tasty and I’m glad I made them . . just not so glad for the mess I made in the kitchen.

I love sugar cookies and yours are adorable. Looks like Mardi Gras and green in the southwest would be so nice! What recipe do you use for the cookies? I’m always looking for a tasty recipe!

The sugar cookie recipe I have always used is more than 50 years old and came from my sister. We always roll the dough out very thin, cut the cookies out, then put sprinkles and red hots on top before baking them. I have a huge collection of Christmas cookie cutters. It was lots of fun to make sugar cookies when my kids were living at home because we made them together. Everyone had a job. But making them by myself isn’t that much fun and it takes forever!

Would you share your 50 year-old sugar cookie recipe with us?

You had too many new cookie molds for everything to fit in the box you wanted to use, so you used something different. You haven’t found them because they’re in a box you’ve ignored, because you know you didn’t put them there. At least that’s what I would do. LOL! I hope you find them soon.

Cookies are cookies any time of the year (in my opinion) and whatever they look like, they look like .. I don’t make Christmas cookies- its usually peanut butter or choc chip anyway so why bother when that is what he wants for Christmas Cookies !
