We have a mama hen that has four babies that hatched while I was in Louisiana. They were supposed to hatch on November 7 so I’m assuming that’s about when it happened so they’re a bit over a month old now.
The mama is so protective and she leads them away from me every time I’m out there.
Three of them seem to have so much white in them but they may end up being more barred looking but I’m surprised at the amount of white. There are Dominique hens and one rooster, as well as Cuckoo Marans, hens and one rooster out there. There’s also one Black Australorp hen so who knows who the parents are.
She was sitting on about 20 eggs, from all different hens. Who knows which ones hatched. They may not even be her biological babies but I’m not telling her that! She’s a good mama and very protective of her babies.
Anyone want to guess how many of the four will be roosters? I’m betting three. That’s about the ratio we usually end up with around here. I’m hoping none are roosters but that would be way too good to be true.
