I so love Aldi. I suppose . . maybe . . I can accept that some folks don’t like it but I just don’t understand why. A new Aldi was or is opening near Austin and I was reading the article about it and I couldn’t believe how many people wrote such negative feelings about the store. I just love Aldi. Some days, I just want to go in and look around, even when I don’t need anything and you know how much I dislike shopping so that’s saying a lot . . I think it’s saying I’m kinda obsessed with Aldi and I want everyone to love it as much as I do.
Yesterday I ran by there while I was in town because I needed to get ground beef. I needed to mix up meatloaves, vacuum and seal the mix and put it with the mac and cheese so I would have complete “kits” in the freezer.
Three packages that were half price. That was enough for 4 meatloaves . . 2 meals each for about $15.70. For eight meals, that’s less than $2 per meal or, about $1 per serving! Add in the mac and cheese, a salad, another veggie and we’ll be having meals for less than $5. Home cooked meals for less than $5. Can’t beat that.
Darn . . I wish I knew how to use Photoshop. Ignore that I bought five (at least) Italian Ice Cream Cups and three Marzipan bars . . did you forget that you saw those? Good! Now . . look at the cranberries for a quarter and celery for a quarter, and a gallon of milk for $1.39. Sausage for $1.99. Breakfast sausage in the grocery store is at least $3.
I’m so happy we have Aldi here. Surprised but happy!

Love it as well here in Scotland, think there is a bit of stobishness attached to some who do not like Aldi and Lidl.

Well, I’ve never been in Aldi so I can’t say one way or another!

I don’t currently have an Aldi in my town but the closest one is pretty good. Unfortunately, the first one I tried, years ago, was dirty and not well run. After finding they weren’t all that way, I do watch the ads and make the drive when they have some good deals.

Our Aldi finally opened last month, and I love shopping there!

we do not have one here, I wish we did, I have been in them when visiting my sister and visiting my daughter in other states.

Our Aldi’s just re-opened after an addition and remodeling. It’s great, but now I have to learn where everything is again…they rearranged! Things are less expensive there than at other grocery stores, but I can’t say I’ve ever found the super great sale items like you do. I went in Black Friday. It was the first time I had been there since they re-opened. It was dangerous for me…they are stocked with all the seasonal German Christmas cookies and goodies…my bill may have looked a similar to yours, only with cookies…LOL

I love Aldi’s. Yesterday when in St. Louis airport, this cute late 20 year old girl sat beside me. Dressed in very nice clothes, beautiful black boots and an expensive purse. Why was she dressed like that you asked? Because she had a plastic Aldi’s bag stuffed full as her carry on!
Hope when I get back home they have cranberry sale!!

We got an Aldi’s here over a year ago, and I knew how much you loved it, so I gave it a try. Sadly, I’m one of those who didn’t find it that appealing. Maybe it’s our location, maybe it’s me and my own way of shopping. I expected a much larger store; ours is quite small. I still save the circulars that arrive each week, and keep thinking I’ll give them another shot, but haven’t yet. It could be I’m just too set my ways and with the stores I’ve always used. We have Smart & Final, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s which tend to be my faves. I understand there is/was some connection between Aldi’s & Trader Joe’s but would have to Google it again for the details. Is yours larger? I would have to say ours isn’t much bigger than a half-size version of a standard supermarket.
Susan says
They often start smaller and then enlarge as business increases. 2 of the 3 in Knoxville have enlarged this year. I would have to say that even before, they were about the same size as our Trader Joe’s, which I hardly ever shop now that they don’t have orange scones any more. It’s just way too expensive. I prefer Fresh Market for the meats and breads, if I’m going to a non-Aldi place.

I love my Aldi, Judy! I don’t shop other places much, except an occasional sale. It isn’t worth it for the cost benefit, and except for Mexican microwave burritos, (don’t shudder – they were for my son!) I’ve not had any of their brands that I didn’t like.

We don’t have Aldi here but I have read about them. Your milk at $1.39 converts to $1.79 Canadian. The cheapest we can get a gallon of milk is $3.65!!!!! Your groceries are much cheaper than ours.

We have had 2 Aldi stores open recently near me so that makes 3 total!! The newest one is the largest and nicest, but I prefer the other 2 because I know where things are. Our prices are not as good as they are in Texas and I’ve only been in the store once when they had a FANTASTIC sale — marked down packages of ground beef for 99 cents (no matter what pounds they were). Turned out they were all about the same size – 3#. They just handed them to people at the check out that wanted one or two. That was a shocker. Has never happened since.

It is in Pflugerville near us. Have not geen to it yet. I think sone if the problem here i have 5 grocery stores close by- 2 large HEB, 1 smaller one. Sprouts, Randalls not to mention several big Wal-Mart’s and Sams. And Costco comes in next year

I love Aldi also. I save a dollar on a half gallon of almond mild over the other grocery store I used to get all my groceries from. Bananas are cheaper as are grapes, eggs, and other produce. The Aldo closest to me just got remodeled and it’s really nice now. I read an article that said they only have four people working at a time. Not so in my store. Sometimes they will have four registers open and still have people stocking shelves. The staff always seems nice and friendly. Yup, love my Aldo.

I have GOT to get over to the Aldi nearest me (still not that close). I would love to get some of the bargains you have. I remember shopping in one in Tennessee: my hostess pointed out the price of eggs (apparently the regular price) that was so low I just had to check–apiece? No, it was for the dozen. Apiece would still have been less than a dozen here. Pfffttt

Judy, I also love Aldi’s! After you said how good their apple cider was, I got some for Thanksgiving. It was delicious! (and I grew up in apple country in PA and am a bit of a cider snob). As for those who don’t like it, that leaves more bargains for us!
