Back in Texas but just for the day and night.
Last night I stayed with my friend and her husband. He is a great cook and it’s always so nice to have a home cooked meal that I didn’t have to cook. Last night we had smoked brisket, potato salad and beans that he had smoked, at least for a while, and they were so good. Then Eileen and I went to visit their son and his family. They are the most adorable and precious family. We knew her son through most of his childhood/teen years but it had been probably 25 years since I had seen him. We knew his wife when they were dating. She looks exactly like she did in high school . . and they now have a son in college and two more kiddos. Her son walked into the room, shook my hand and introduced himself. He had no idea who I was. When his mom said “This is Judy!” I think he was embarrassed but it was funny. Their kids are hilarious. Great kids and a great family. I told Eileen tonight that the visit with them provided lots of laughs and smiles for my road trip today. Then we went to visit another friend and shared a bit of wine . . more laughs and fun. Then Eileen and I stayed up til probably midnight (though with this new time change, it may have been only 8 p.m.)
Roger fixed sweet potato pancakes and bacon for breakfast. Yum! Told you he was a good cook! Then I was back on the road.
A little over 1 hour of my trip is in Louisiana, then . . the rest of the day is driving in Texas. It’s a huge state when you’re driving. Almost as soon as I got into Texas, it started raining and it rained the entire time I was driving. Once I got to the hotel, it stopped. I didn’t even mind . . living in central Texas has taught me to appreciate every drop of rain we can get.
There’s a nice sushi restaurant here that I like and I had planned to go there for dinner but then I saw Jack in the Box and figured (1) it was closer (2) it was quicker (3) it cost less (4) I’ll get my fill of sushi in Joplin so I grabbed a teriyaki bowl and egg roll from Jack in the Box.
The egg roll was better than the teriyaki bowl but it’s done and I’m in for the night. I’m going to sit and knit til bed time . . which won’t be long. Between the time change and the events of the past week, I think it will be an early night for me.
You know who I’ll be loving on this time tomorrow! I cannot wait.
