We eat our main meal at lunch, which makes it almost impossible to grill steak. We use a charcoal grill. The old grill had a gas lighter but the new one doesn’t. I refuse to use lighter fluid. Vince has a little chimney and he gets the charcoal going, then dumps it in the grill. I’ve tried that twice and, honestly, there are so many other things I’d rather do than mess with getting charcoal going.
I decided .. I can cook steak in an iron skillet on the hot plate and let it smoke as much as it wants to smoke without having smoke alarms go off or having to clean grease splatters off the ceiling.
It worked . . perfectly! Vince was quite happy with it. Steak is quick and easy to fix and now I can make it for lunch without having to deal with charcoal. We’ll still have grilled steak on weekends when Vince is home and can make hot coals for the grill but when I’m doing the cooking . . it will be steak on the hot plate!

Love this! I’ve learned to use the electric frying pan on the back porch for things that are too messy or smoky for the kitchen. So helpful!

That looks good. I took your lead and picked up one of those hot plates too. Haven’t tried it yet and other than 1 cast iron skillet, I don’t know if I have any other pots or pans that will work with it. lol
