Despite everyone assuring me I would have no problems after having the flu shot, I came close to having a serious problem . . all because of the flu vaccine!
The nurse put a dark blue little octagon shaped bandage on my injection site. No pain. No bleeding. No swelling. No feverish feeling . . problems at all.
Got the flu shot on Wednesday. Never thought twice about it. No problems til . . that night I was in the shower. Glasses off; don’t always see things exactly as they are. Felt something on my foot. Looked down, saw something dark. Scorpion! My head said scorpion and I started screaming and trying to get it away from my foot but it was stuck. Boring into my foot with that awful stinger, I was sure. At any moment I would begin to feel the excruciating pain of the scorpion sting. Still . . it was stuck to my foot and it wasn’t stinging but I couldn’t get it to let go. I thought about grabbing it with my fingers but I didn’t want them to get stung either. I was dancing around trying to fling it off my foot and really probably making some crazy sounds. It seemed like forever but was probably about 10 seconds. Then . . I realized . . it was the little dark blue bandage that was partially stuck to the bottom edge of my foot! Apparently, as I was scrubbing myself with my little scrubby, I had probably knocked the bandage off and it had fallen to the floor in the shower, and stuck to my foot and it wasn’t a scorpion after all.
I got out of the shower . .
Vince: Why were you screaming?
Me: You heard me screaming and didn’t come check on me?
Vince: You stopped screaming and you sounded like you were still alive.
Barely, Vince . . just barely alive. Thanks for your concern!
I told him it was nothing serious . . just the bandage from my flu shot. He said nothing but looked at me with that look on his face . . I don’t think he even wanted to know the rest of that story.
You never know what kind of problems you’re going to experience from any vaccine!

I regularly scare myself in the shower, thinking the shower curtain magnets are bugs. I’ve done it often enough that I generally only gasp before I realize it is just a magnet.

Judy, I have been giving flu shots for about 8 years now and this is the first time I have heard of a reaction caused by the bandaid!!! I think I have found the distraction that will relax the most terrified patient!
