It was about in 1976 that I got my first dachshund and there have only been a few years since then that I haven’t had a dachshund. We had planned to get another one when Speck is gone but with Rita’s medical condition and just not having the desire and probably not the mental fortitude to go through training a puppy, I doubt we get another one. Vet care for dogs these days is outrageous. Between Rita’s eye drops and Speck’s heart meds, we’re spending way more than we ever planned to spend on medical care for dogs.
Anyway . . Wednesday after work Vince walked in the door and said “We have another drop off!” I said “What?” and he said “A dachshund!” My eyes lit up . . I couldn’t say no if someone had dropped a dachshund off at our house. Vince turned the corner and I could see he was carrying a box. It reminded me of the box we used when we brought Speck home. I was pretty excited.
Then I saw inside the box. Notice the box top has “Judy” written on it. They didn’t just pick some random house. It was meant for me.
And this note was attached.
It was left at our gate. The weird thing is that I know so few people around here and so few of them actually know where we live and so few of those would drive all the way out here to drop off a dachshund. I could use my sleuthing skills and try to find out who left it here but I figure if someone wants to give me a gift and remain anonymous, I can respect that. So .. thank you to someone for thinking of me and remembering how much I love dachshunds.
Yes, little dachshund. You came to the right place. We take in all strays. Thank you for not showing up needing medical care! 🙂

Have you name it yet? Very cute and I like the idea it doesn’t need to be house trained!

That’s an adorable dachshund! That’s the same coloring as my doxie was.

Boy I understand about vet bills. With a 14 year old golden retriever and 13 year old poodle their prescriptions are higher than both of us 65 year olds. I have always had a dog of some breed but I say I am getting a parakeet when these two are gone!!
