I keep forgetting to tell y’all this! Monday Vince and I went to Abilene. We dropped Rita off at the vet, then went on to my doctor’s appointment. We ate lunch, we by T. J. Maxx and then went to get Rita. The vet wanted to talk to us so we were sitting in the waiting area. It’s a big room with 5 or 6 doors that lead to examining rooms. When the vet tech came to the door to get us, he was holding Rita and before he ever said our names, we stood up to go to her. We were probably 12 feet away from her and there were probably 5 or 6 other people in the waiting room, along with three other dogs.
Rita immediately began wagging her tail and trying to get loose from the vet tech so she could come to us. We were talking to the vet about it. We keep trying to convince them that she CAN see but the vet said NO . . her sense of smell is so keen and she smelled us. I’m sure it was Vince she smelled . . I don’t smell! 🙂
The vet told us that if you put her down in a room full of people, she would go straight to us because she knows we’re there by her sense of smell. It’s amazing to watch her. I’ll always wish she wasn’t blind but just seeing how well she’s adapted helps my heart not break so badly.

I had an agility champion 8 lb Dachshund go blind at age 4. She was so great at manuvering in my home and other people’s homes. Never hit a wall….just wandered down, found a couch and jumped up. She was amazing. Rita sounds just like that.
