Last night the TV was one. Without cable, you never know what Vince is going to find for us to watch. I’ve been so surprised that in almost four years, he’s always found really interesting things . . much better things than we ever watched when we had cable. I’m not sure what all he uses but I think Amazon Prime, Netflix, and maybe something else.
Last night we were watching one of those shows where they go to various areas and eat “ethnic” type foods. Every episode has us saying “If we leave now . . ” The food always looks so good! I always want to cook everything they show! They were in South Carolina and Georgia eating Brunswick Stew. We both love Brunswick Stew.
Today I had to go out to get a hair cut so I ran by the grocery store and got a pork butt and a chicken, which I will smoke. I figured I’d put the pork butt on tonight and it would be ready for tomorrow at lunch. We could eat part of it tomorrow and then still have way plenty for the stew but now Vince tells me he won’t be home for lunch so . . I’ll smoke the butt tomorrow night and it will be ready for lunch on Friday. I’ll smoke the chicken on Saturday. We’ll eat part of it for lunch and add the leftovers to the stew.
This recipe looks like one I’ll basically follow. I do believe we’ll have Brunswick Stew in the freezer . . enough to make it through the winter. As much as I love soup and stew, we don’t eat much of it during the summer but we sure eat a lot of it in the winter. How about you . . soup all year or mostly soup during cold weather?

Yum. I want to eat at your house!
We don’t get network TV and rely on streaming to watch anything. When we moved here 4 years ago, we couldn’t get reception without cable and thought we’d try doing without for a few months. We’ve never felt the need to hook up. Love binge watching shows we stumble upon. You can stream most any show 1 day or 1 week after it airs. The best part: no news. I’d read that if you stop watching the news you’ll be less depressed. We found that true. I still stay informed. Now the trick is to not read too much of the negative stuff online.

All year. The first year here we had Taiwan beef noodle soup 9/5. It was over 100 degrees!

I cook mainly soups in the fall/winter. Being in Texas as you are, it’s way too hot in the summer. I don’t want to cook at all in the summer! Thankfully my husband and I love most kinds of soup/stew/chowder so it’s on the menu very often. And I have not watched a tv show in I can’t even remember how long. We have never had cable; made that decision when our boys were young and did not want them watching so much tv; did not want it available. Husband watches some shows, don’t even know what as there is nothing I want to see. I have Netflix movies on while sewing or knitting and he watches some Netflix or Amazon Prime or Apple tv. He’s headed to Brady tomorrow, in fact.

All year except the very hottest of summer. I’ve been eating soup lately and we’re still having highs in the 80’s. It is better when it is cold out, though. (especially chili. I don’t really want chili yet. Raw, cold, wet and/or snowy days is when I want chili!)

I’m in south Florida; soups, stews, and chili are definitely for fall and winter
