Yesterday when I was gathering eggs, I had to take a second look when I looked in and saw this egg.
Not only is it huge but the surface is ruffly. I cannot imagine what it must have felt like to lay that egg. Truthfully, I have no idea how it feels to lay any egg but that one is huge!
In the carton with other normal sized eggs, it looks amazingly huge.
Here it is with a large egg on the left an a bantam egg on the right.
From Wikipedia, here’s a chart of egg sizes.
The chart shows that a jumbo egg weighs 70.9 grams. This big egg weighs 75 grams!
Just for fun, the bantam egg weighs in as a peewee egg. She may lay peewee eggs, but she’s a huge pain in the back side.
I wasn’t sure if it would maybe have a triple yolk but it was only a double.
Both our eggs this morning had double yolks.
Without the shell, the big egg weighed 66 grams.
An average egg weighed 46 grams!
I’m betting there’s a hen out there that hopes she never lays an egg that big again!

If that egg had been in the grocrery I would be curious as to what animal laid it. If I knew it was a regular chicken egg I don’t think I’d buy it with the simply shell.**Speaking of double yolks, everyone thought I was having twins since I was so big. Like Sherrill (but didn’t she push all the way?)he was a single,(after 18hr of labor mercifully I got a c/section) a 10 1/2 lb. 22 1/2″ boy. My first child. ***That poor little chicken. Do you know which one laid it? Does she walk funny? 🙂
