Shopping for yarn online works when I need one color and I do ok sometimes when choosing up to three colors but much more than three and I struggle, often having to order yarns several times to get colors that work.
When I saw True Colors by Melanie Berg, it was love at first sight! I love the colors (Lorna’s Laces) that she used and Jimmy Beans is offering a kit. I’ve never been a fan of kits, simply because I don’t want exactly what everyone else has. I kept going from kit to yarn selections, back to kit and back to yarn selections.
Any yarn shop would have to have a tremendous selection of mini skeins to choose yarns for this project. Miss Babs always has plenty of colors in her mini skeins. I went through over 300 mini skeins and these are a portion of the ones I added to compare.
In the beginning, I wasn’t sure where I was headed with color choices but with all the yarns Miss Babs has, it’s pretty exciting to choose colors. If I spent half as much time knitting as I spend looking for yarn, I’d get a whole lot more done.
It was pretty clear I was leaning towards purples/blues/greens. This is what I ended up with. The Quicksilver is for the background and I’m hoping the purples kinda transition to the blues and the greens will be added where ever they need to be.
Let’s hope they all look like I think they will look when they get here and I don’t have to order more. 🙂

I love that pattern too. I started looking at yarn and got too frustrated – going to move on to something else for the time being. I finished the KISS shawl except for blocking and weaving in the ends. I had a lot of James Brett bulky yarn that I bought a few years ago for a project that never materialized so I started the Weekend Jacket Revisited. It’s a different construction and I almost changed my mind then decided to just follow it one step at a time. It’s bulky yarn on big needles so should go pretty quickly.

I’m going to be beefing up my existing gradient set from Miss Babs (fall colors that I didn’t use for some other project) with some additional colors for this pattern – I was looking over the weekend but couldn’t decide what to choose. I was originally going to use this for one of my Camp Challenge projects but then remember the Miss Babs so will go with that instead.
