Another Joji Locatelli pattern — Bobble Cowl. It’s also another project for Joji’s 2017 Fall Knit Along.
The yarn I’m using is Madelinetosh Twist Light and the color is Augustus Gloop. It’s one of Eat, Sleep, Knit’s monthly colorways, and this year’s theme is Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. I have no idea who Augustus Gloop is because I never watched the show.
With yarns that aren’t solid or tonal, you never know how they’re going to knit up. This is what Augustus Gloop looks like caked.
Yarns can knit up totally differently if knitting in stockinette versus garter stitch.
After a few rows, I’ve decided I’m losing too much of the design with the yarn so I’m going to switch to a solid. Notice a pattern here? I seem to be ripping quite a bit!
I do love the Bobble Cowl pattern and would highly recommend it for anyone who’s a confident beginner.
- It includes yarnovers to create a bit of lace.
- You learn to make bobbles, which I think are so fun.
- You make short rows but do not have to pick up the wrap.
It’s a pretty easy pattern. Hopefully I’ll have some progress to show soon in a more solid color and you can see the design better.
Joyce says
Augustus Gloop is the little boy from Germany (out of a group of several children) who goes on the tour of Willy Wonka’s candy factory. He is a glutton who falls in the chocolate river after trying to drink it and gets sucked through a giant tube to the fudge room. (I’ve watched the movie way too many times! LOL) Each of the children except the “hero” (of course) embodies the worst of bad habits and gets their “just rewards”. My favorite is Violet, who end up turning into a giant blueberry… I’d be interested to see her colorway…
