This little seed can teach us all a lesson!
I don’t think it’s a zucchini but I don’t know for sure.
Yesterday Vince was outside setting up the pizza cooker on a table that I had used to wash veggies from the garden. One of the “veggies” had rolled off the table and was kinda under the table and I had not noticed it. The “veggie” had dried up and rotted but a seed from inside had sprouted.
Vince said “It’s tried so hard to survive. You have to plant it.” Ahhh . . he has a tender side! 🙂
I told him we only have three months til frost . . there’s a slim chance it will produce anything before then. He said “You can put it in the greenhouse!” I wasn’t going to use the greenhouse this year since I’m probably not having a garden next spring. I told him “I am not running a propane heater all winter for one mystery vegetable.” He said . . just plant it and let’s see what happens.
So I went out, put some dirt in a pot and planted this mystery veggie. I can’t believe I did that!

Why aren’t you doing a spring garden next year?

You have to plant a garden next year, it’s what you do! Do it in honor of Houston, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw your picture.

I bring in my pepper plants for the winter since they are in pots. Put it in a pot and see what it grows up to be…

I’m with Vince. It struggled so hard to get this far, it has to grow and produce! I’m so glad you are going to plant it, and I hope you will tell us how it does!

Yes! Keep us posted! Four weeks ago, my daughter and I decided to take a chance and start some zucchini as neither of us planted veggies this year as we were so busy with wedding plans. She chose varieties that were from seed purchased two-three years ago. She planted three of each variety and one of each came up quickly. I took the other three varieties that were 5 years old. I planted four seeeds of each varieties. Nothing came up, so two weeks ago I planted four of each again. I had given up hope and lugged the giant pot off the driveway and forgot about it. My daughter’s plants each have baby blossoms coming up and now my one seedling has its’ first set of true leaves. With luck, our first frost wont hit till November, so we may actually get a small harvest. Who knows? Gardening is always an experiment.

I can’t believe you aren’t planting in the spring!

You know you will plant a garden. When winter is in full swing, you will be dreaming of what you can produce.
