Last year our big fig tree did this exact same thing — it was making a ton of figs and then right around the first of August last year but around the last week in July this year, it just stopped producing ripe figs. There were tons of green ones on there. Last year when it happened, I thought maybe I had watered it too much but this year . . I just figured it was being a difficult fig tree. Both years, it seemed like the ripening just stopped but after a few weeks, they started ripening again.
I’ve kinda forgotten about the figs and hadn’t even been over there to check it. Yesterday I walked by and noticed it was full of ripe figs.
I had on flip flops and didn’t want to go way up under the tree where I couldn’t see my toes so I picked a few from around the outer edges. We ate some and we had Fig Dutch Babies for breakfast this morning.
We had a yummy breakfast.
I love the mornings when we are able to have leisurely breakfasts. During the week, when Vince is working, I have to juggle letting the chickens out, taking both dogs out, feeding Cat, checking on Boots and getting breakfast done . . all by about 6:30 a.m. That’s one of the reasons I love the shorter days. I can fix breakfast and then once Vince leaves, I can go out and take care of the critters. The chickens start making quite a fuss if I’m not out there shortly after daylight and I don’t enjoy cooking or eating breakfast, knowing the chickens are about to panic with the sun up and them still cooped up. On weekends, there’s plenty of time for taking care of the animals before I start fixing breakfast or Vince will take care of the animals while I cook.
Tomorrow we’re having angel biscuits, grits, scrambled eggs and country ham .. that’s a breakfast we rarely have during the week.

Both breakfasts sound wonderful. I have never heard of Dutch Babies, fig or otherwise, but it looks good. Is that syrup on the sections? honey? How interesting that fig tree is consistent in its behavior!

My big gig tree stopped making fun and is dropping leaves but little gig tree (about 4ft) has little green figs on it now. They are confused I think.

My HUGE fig tree has always had two crops. I get a smaller one in July for two weeks or so and then a BONANZA from August to early September. I figure we have the same kind of fig trees, your photo looks like my figs.
