You readers amaze me. I read quite a few blogs and listen to a lot of podcasts and I can’t remember where most of those people live but I’m always surprised how many people remember where I am (I guess it’s the months of whining about moving here and all the moaning I do about wanting to move back to MO). Not only do you remember where I am but so many of you are always looking out for me.
Oh . . totally different subject but thanks to everyone who wrote me. The Marans chickens lay 150 eggs per year . . not per week. Ouch . . can you imagine? No . . I can’t even think about that! Sorry for making you do a double take. Never trust what I write! 🙂
OK . . here’s the real blog post . .
Hurricane Harvey appears to be going to hit the gulf coast of Texas. It isn’t supposed to affect us much .. maybe a little rain. Right now they’re saying maybe 2″ of rain . . probably less than 1″ though. At our house, since we’ve been here, we’ve had a 7″ rain and other than washing out part of our driveway, we didn’t have any problems. We keep extra rock for the driveway and Vince can fix any damage with his tractor. It’s hilly around here so everything drains quickly. I just don’t see us ever having a flooding issue at our house. In town, it’s a different story. Brownwood sits in a hole . . I’m sure there’s a reason but I’ll never know why towns are built in a bowl but I suppose that’s why I’m a knitter and not a designer of municipalities!
We’re almost exactly 5 hours straight north of Corpus Christi. Things could change but right now it looks like the worst of the weather is going to turn east before getting this far. Don’t worry about us . . I don’t expect us to have any issues at all but we’re prepared for whatever might come our way.
I’ve talked to my parents. They’re expecting lots of rain. I’ve seen some models that show them getting as much as 19″ of rain. I don’t think there’s any part of that area that can handle 19″ of rain with all the rain they’ve had but my parents will be fine. My sister doesn’t live there but she has a house there because her grandkids are there and if it rains that much, she’ll end up with water in her house there. Most models are predicting 10″ of rain for them. My sister will still end up with water in her house with a 10″ rain because the ground is saturated and all the ditches and bayous are full.
I never mind you checking on me . . but you never need to worry about us.

I’d never worry about you for just some rain…..you’d probably be outside dancing in it! Now, if tornadoes were predicted for your area I would worry.

I just hope the storm doesn’t take out your internet!

If we didn’t care we wouldn’t worry, hugs

I suspect that towns are built around available water. When they were started streams were necessary and digging for wells was hard work. A lake was even better.

We’re in Corpus Christi and the hurricane is expected to land right here! We’ve boarded up the house Windows and have most things packed that need be. Our plan is to hit the road early in the morning to head up to Concan along the Frio River where we spend our summer vacation every year in our RV. This trip we’ll be renting a cabin on site until Sunday. Hopefully we will have a home to come back to. Would appreciate any prayers you have time to send our way. Also we’ll be taking all 3 of our Boxers with us. Which should be interesting since 2 of them sleep with us in our King size bed at home but the cabin only has a Queen size bed! Boxers are very much bed hogs lol. Praying for anyone else who is escaping The storm heading for Corpus.

I wasn’t worried about most things, just didn’t know how much rain is predicted for you. I hope your parents and sister don’t get that ten inches, even!
Nancy says
Not really worried about you getting to much rain. you might get a few showers. But you are prepared for anything. Much more prepared than FEMA.

I care for you and Vince and the pups as if you were part of my extended family and when anything comes on the news about Texas I always think of you. I do have an aunt and cousins in the Austin area too. I get more news and information from you and your blog than any other place, so we have to keep you safe!!
