Five years ago, I had no idea how much a little granddaughter would impact my life. She’s smart, she’s funny, she’s feisty, she’s determined and . . she’s adorable!
When they got here last week, she told me “Granny, I am staying with you forever!” I asked her what she would do when her mom and dad left and she said “We would play!” I said “What if they say you can’t stay forever?” and she said “When they start to leave, you can help me hide.” Hmmm . . not sure I’d better do that. I told her that maybe staying with me forever wasn’t a good idea but when I move closer to them, I’ll come to her house, we’ll pack her suitcase and she can come spend a few days with me.
She looked at me with a very sad look and said “But Granny, I don’t have a suitcase!” So, for her birthday, I got her a Shopkins suitcase.
By the time it was getting closer to the day they were leaving to go home, she declared that she was only joking about living with me forever. I knew she was not going to even think about letting her mom and dad go back without her . . not that any of us would have considered doing that but it was fun to play along with her.
She did spend two days with me while Nicole and Chad were gone off doing adult things. Addie was about 10 months old when I was visiting them once. Chad and Nicole went somewhere and left her with me. She became hysterical when she realized her mommy was gone and I ended up having to call them to come back home. I think she would spend one or two nights with me now so hopefully, by the time we do get to move, she’ll be happy to come and stay with us for a few days.
Five years have flown by. Let’s just hope I can figure out a way to get us moved to Missouri before too many more birthdays pass (for both of us!).

I think I was about 8 when I started to get to spend a week at Grandna and Grandpa’s house. They lived out in the “country” (actually as very small town, population about 100). I always had a great time, but Mom and Dad were only 13 miles away, so it would have been easy to go home if need be. Those were fun times!

I’m so thankful my son, DIL and my three grandsons house is walking distance from mine. Those boys light my life so much!

Oh my, Addie is five! Kindergarten this year?

Nope, her birthday is too late. She’ll be 6 by the time she starts kindergarten, which isn’t a bad thing.
