One of Eat, Sleep, Knit’s Knit Alongs this year, where our team can earn stars . . is Persian Dreams. It’s beautiful but I’m not real fired up about all the colorwork. I would like to do it some day but not today.
My friend, Eve, has been doing the hexagons using solidish or striping fingering weight yarn. Several times I’ve asked her about doing them . . are they hard, how long do they take? Eve assured me they were not hard but when I looked at the pattern, it always seemed intimidating.
Yesterday morning I thought . . I’m doing it! I was up an hour before Vince got up so I didn’t need to get breakfast going yet, didn’t want to make noise and wake him up so I sat down and started knitting.
As usual, I didn’t read the instructions. I cast on using long tail and ended up with a huge hole in the middle. Ripped out. Started over . . not sure what I did wrong but cast on again and, again ended up with a huge hole. Then, a little late, I read the instructions and realized I needed to do the cast on mentioned in the instructions. That worked great!
There’s still a bit of a hole in the middle but I can live with that. Not bad for my first one. I’m not sure what I was thinking was hard when I initially looked at the instructions but they’re quite simple to make.

My mom always used to tell me ‘ read the pattern carefully and don’t be afraid of any pattern’. She was so right as I make lots of mistakes when I rush in and don’t read it properly. The hexie looks great
