Yesterday Rita and I made a trip to Abilene to have the pressure in her eyes checked. It was a new vet that we had not seen before but he’s the closest we could find with the tool to measure the pressure in her eyes. He walked in and said “How are you?” and I said “Better than I was at the last vet.” When we were in Austin, I knew what she was going to say (that she was blind) and the minute the vet walked into the room, I lost it.
Yesterday when the vet started checking her vision, it was obvious she wasn’t seeing anything and I started crying again. So much for being strong!
When we were in Austin, the pressure in her right eye was 77. It should be 15. Yesterday it was down to 6, which means the drops were working. He had us go from 2 different drops to one and use twice a day instead of three times a day.
The vet told me the drops will work for a while . . eventually the drops will not keep the pressure down. I don’t know what “eventually” means. He will check her eyes once a month.
The price quoted for her surgery in Austin was $3,500 to $4,000. The vet in Abilene will do the same surgery for less than $1,000, which is a huge savings. The vet in Austin told us that most local vets will do it and it’s actually day surgery . . take them in the morning, shop in Abilene all day and go back and get her that afternoon. Hard to believe!
She’s such a good traveler! We have never taken her in the car much because the first time we took her anywhere, she got so nervous, she released whatever the release when they need to have their glands expressed and oh, my goodness . . I thought we were all going to throw up. I was pretty nervous about taking her to Austin but she did fine and has decided that every time I go to the car, she’s going to go too.
She really is the sweetest little dog . . and she’s finally what I would call 100% house trained. That was a very long time coming!
How can one scared little dog worm her way into our hearts so deeply? We do love her.

Well, it sounds much more affordable now! It sounds like you were comfortable with the vet in Abilene, too.

Sounds like a better report. She is such a cutie. She’ s showing a little age around her muzzle. She looks so much like the one I had for almost 19 years and she too loved to ride in the car. Good memories!

And you know she worships you and Vince! I just feel like she’s found the perfect home with you two. I’m so happy to hear that the drops are working right now. She’s a lucky little dog.

How wonderful that she made her way to your house and the Vince was able to catch her. Her life was so different then.

She is a smart little girl! She chose Vince and you. Every time you say you cried, I cry too. She’s in loving, caring hands!

Ohh so glad the drops are working for now .. She is in good loving hands for sure !!! Yes they do worm their little loving expressions into our hearts and become our furkids or bestfriends with 4 legs(some people don’t like to refer to their pets as furkids). Mine is both furkid and best friend with 4 legs.
