Til the well runs dry!
Our well had not run dry but we didn’t have a drop of water this morning. Last night after midnight, I took a shower and everything was fine. Got up about 5:45 and there was not a drop of water anywhere . . not outside, not inside. The pressure had dropped to about 25 (should be about 60).
I was running around outside with a flashlight to be sure no faucets had been left on overnight. Vince grabbed some gallon jugs of water and took a “shower”. Rita had an appointment in Abilene this afternoon and I was not going without a shower and washing my hair.
Vince stuck three gallon jugs in the floor and said “Here . . use this for your shower!” I said . . please tell me that you used more than 1/2 gallon of water for your shower! Nope . . that’s what he used. I don’t even want to know how he managed that.
I gathered up a few 5 gallon buckets and took the RTV out to the orchard well. It only works off solar so I had to wait til the sun was shining down at the right angle before that well was pumping water.
This is when the prepper in me smiles. The first well stops working; there’s the second well (solar) for backing. It would work even if there’s no electricity. All else fails, there’s a 3,000 gallon tank with water. That tank is filled by the solar well. We may not have running water . . as in coming out of the faucets, but we’ll always have water.
The RTV was parked in the sun so the water could get warm before I used it for my “shower”.
But then I thought . . no one can see me. The water in the water hose gets really warm in the sun so I’ll just take my shower in the front yard!
I brought my towel, my body wash, soap and shampoo out, stripped down in the living room, ran out in the yard, used the water hose to wash my hair and shower. It was early enough to still be cool, there was a breeze blowing . . that was the best shower I’ve had in a long time! I told Vince . . I could do that every day but we decided that was probably not a good idea.
I ended up taking Rita to Abilene and Vince stayed home for the well repairman. It was a capacitor and before I even got to Abilene, Vince called to tell me we had water again. This afternoon Vince turned on the kitchen faucet and he said “It’s so nice to have running water!” I agree.
Here are two funny stories. I texted Chad this morning and said “I hope you’re ready for an adventure because we have no running water.” They will be here in a couple of days. He said “I’m having my own adventure. Our air conditioner went out last night!” When I called him to tell him we had water and it was only a capacitor, the said “We have air and it was only a capacitor!” How weird is that.
The other funny story: Nicole called and she was cracking up. She said she and one of her co-workers were taking a break and the lady said “I wish I could just take a bath in my pool!” Nicole said at that very moment she looked on Facebook and I had the picture of my supplies and was talking about taking a shower in the front yard. She said she was cracking up and the lady asked what was so funny and Nicole said “You just said you wished you could bathe in your pool and here’s my MIL talking about showering in her front yard!” How funny!
I was really concerned that with all the water I’ve been doing, I had ruined the well but it was an easy fix and not caused by anything I had done.

I’m just thinking of how many people have binoculars or little drones w/cameras. In our neighborhood, someone flew their drone up and down the neighborhood parallel to the streets for about two hours.

It’s a good thing you didn’t get a delivery! 😀 (I know that it was too early.) I have seen directions for outdoor showers; that sounds refreshing in your hot weather.
You needed another shower after sleeping for several hours?

What brand of RTV do you have Judy. We have been looking at them. Kawasaki, and Club Car XRT.

I had to laugh because I don’t think there’s another blog anywhere where I could read about an adventure like this. So … were you wearing flip flops? All I could think about was your snakes!

I have a friend who years ago was showering in her yard – no really close neighbors – when the electric meter man showed up. I guess he got an eye full!
