Our little knitting group has a knitting retreat coming up. We’re going to some place the local ladies have been many times before and I can hardly wait. All meals are provided – the place is supposed to be amazing! We’ll all have our own rooms and we’ll have a meeting room. Some will bring sewing machines and piece quilt tops but most of us will bring knitting or crochet projects.
Yesterday at our knitting group, we were all talking and planning what we were going to bring. I don’t have a clue what I’m going to bring. I’m determined I’m going to knit, get a lot accomplished and not sit and talk all day and all night but, with this group of ladies, there may very well be more talking and laughing than knitting.
Possible projects I may take:
- Veronika Cardigan – This looks like it should be easy to knit and looks like something I could wear the heck out of around here.
- Aurora Borealis – This is intriguing – may be something I have to work on in my room when it’s quiet.
- Tailfeather – This also looks easy enough. I have the yarn for this one already.
Then, there are the projects that are tucked away in bags that need to be finished.
All of these projects have very little done on them. No need to haul all four of them around so I’ll probably narrow it down to two.
I’ll probably take along at least one project for making mittens, socks and a hat . . those are easy things to knit while talking and visiting and . . maybe drinking wine.
It’s been too long since I had a few days and a few nights with girls only and I’m so looking forward to this trip. I wish we were leaving today!

I used to love our knitting retreat but the location we used burned down two years ago and the owners decided not to rebuild. There were lots of dorm style bedrooms (2-4) per room and meals were included. It was awesome! Unfortunately, our guild hasn’t found anything large enough or close enough to continue our annual retreat. Enjoy yours!

Thank goodness you have your own rooms so I don’t have to warn anyone about your short sheeting tendencies! Do you have yarn picked out for your Aurora? I need to do some shopping for that but told myself I really should finish the other pattern by that designer first. We shall see if that really happens.

I always overpack projects for knitting retreats! (because, you know, there is no yarn available at all anywhere near where we go! HA…except for the yarn store that is only about a mile away, and the people who set up tables to sell yarn/fiber/project bags, etc…) I say I bring all the projects so if I get tired of one, I can work on another. I also spend a lot of time visiting, but I do like to bounce from project to project…
