Around here, the saying “when it rains, it pours” seems to be alive and well.
For the past few months, I’ve been having acupuncture on my foot that was injured several years ago and has never been right since. The acupuncture has brought about a great improvement on my foot. I’m now getting treatment once a week but a month or so ago, I mentioned to the chiropractor that I was having trouble with my left knee. He tried acupuncture and some kind of TENS type treatment (not TENS but I forgot what he called it) and it didn’t help at all. Last week, I don’t know what I did but . . didn’t fall, didn’t twist it but the knee decided that even thinking about moving it was excruciating.
I got in to see a bone/joint doctor in Abilene on Friday. He thinks it’s a torn meniscus and wanted me to have an MRI. I was not looking forward to making another trip to Abilene since we have to take Rita on Wednesday but I called the MRI place to see when they could do it. When she learned that I was in town, and lived almost 2 hours away, she asked if I wanted to come in and wait til they could work me in so I had Vince drop me off and he went shopping. Got the MRI done but, of course, I won’t know the results til I go back to the doctor.
The knee is better . . still hurts but I can walk, with a limp. I’ll see the doctor in Abilene on August 7. I didn’t want to schedule it while Chad is here next week . . don’t want to waste one minute of my time with them. Priorities, you know!

I’ve heard that growing old isn’t for wimps. I’m starting to believe it myself lately… I hope your knee decides to behave itself and stop hurting. You need to be able to run around after Addie!

i will follow you with interest — i tore my meniscus 10 years ago. the orthopedic doc would not do surgery on it to fix it because: 1) i was female, 2) i was 50 lbs overweight. i was on crutches for six months while it “healed” itself. if i step “wrong” i end up on crutches again. growing older is no fun at times!!

Not to be a downer, but my husband had surgery for a torn meniscus about 10 years ago and it did NOT help him at all. Finally in January (2017) he had a total knee replacement after trying lots of other treatments. He is doing better, thank goodness, but he still has problems. Bad knees run in his family and he is extremely overweight which doesn’t help. I have a friend who has had surgery for her torn meniscus several times on the same knee and she is still having problems. I wish you the best but be aware that the surgery for a torn meniscus isn’t the end all be all some people think it is.

My hubby tore his almost two years ago…at least the doc believed that was the problem. Hubby chose not to do the MRI and has just sort of babied it a bit. He could still do his daily walk as long as he didn’t twist it funny. He’s doing much better now and it hardly bothers him. Hopefully yours will be an easy fix.

Had mine done several years ago. A bucket tear. The tear was a flap and would get caught when I moved. Been fine. There is very little blood supply in the knee area and it takes awhile for it to heal. At least that was what I was told. Each of us has different healing qualities. MRI will tell. Try an anti inflammatory while the family is visiting. Cause you will be busy.

I’m glad you had an MRI done. What they thought was a torn meniscus after my fall turned out to be a torn ACL. I hope you can find a treatment method that works for you.

Just saw an article on the news where they have approved taking your cell from the cartilage and they grow more of your own cells to insert back into the knee. New and creative ways to combat the aging process. They did it on a thirty something guy and so far very successful. Hope springs eternal.

Wishing you all the best. Getting old is DEFINITELY not for sissies….

I’ve said more than once that the only thing “golden” about the golden years is the doctor’s pockets! Every year it’s something else!

I had this happen to my left knee and had the worst pain. After the MRI the ortho doctor put 5 injections (not covered by insurance) in my knee over a 10week? (I can’t remember) period and since then never had the worst pain again. Twinges in the last few months but nothing like the first and only time it hurt me.

I fell sometime back a few years and tore mine too, for me the surgery was a big success. The healing did take a while.
