This is another example of why I blog. You, the readers, do so much for me! Sometimes it’s just a kind word, sometimes it’s an encouraging thought, sometimes it’s a link . . I don’t even always take the time to tell you “thank you” when you do something that especially touches me and sometimes I don’t even realize how your comment or email has affected me until later and by then, half the time I can’t even find or remember who it was who sent me the note.
This morning, I had an email from Jean telling me to google “Harley blind dog Shriners Hospital”. Knowing I have a road trip today and was hopeful I was going to have a day with no tears, no burning eyes, no swollen, red eyes, I almost wrote Jean back to say “Thank you! I’ll google it when I get home.” But . . no, I had to google it and yes, today I’ll have swollen, red yes but today’s tears are somewhat happy tears.
If you have time, please read this article from Greenville Online. There are so many similarities:
- The dog’s owner’s name is Rita.
- The dog went blind almost overnight due to glaucoma.
- They tried putting drops in her eyes for a few months. They weren’t successful and after a lot of struggling, did go with having her eyes removed and it made a huge difference.
- Harley is a happy, sweet dog.
Every single time I have to put the drops in Rita’s eyes, I say how happy I am that she’s not a mean dog like Speck. We could never have put drops in his eyes but Rita never complains.
I will always wish this hadn’t happened but am so thankful we’re able to make things better for her.

What a wonderful article – thanks so much for sharing it with us! Bawled all the way through it.
The following quote from it struck me:
“They have a way of finding people who need them and filling a space you didn’t even know you had,”
That;s exactly what Rita has done. She’s a smart pup!

Their is a lady living in Senior place I go on Thursdays who has a blind dog. I ask her about how it did. She said it became blind 4 years ago and has done very well. Tips just don’t move stuff to different spot to often and have another dog to help it around sometimes. I think you have both of these covered. Dog looked and acted normal on the walk she was taking them. Would have never known.Hang in is what I’m saying Rita will do just fine with you and Vince. Now she might have to go on more road trips or have someone stay at your house her when you both go.

There is a lady I follow on instagram named fancyfarmgirl and one of her little rescue dogs went blind and she bought this thing for it called a Halo Harness which keeps a ring around their face so they can’t run into things and hurt themselves. The ring touches things first and makes them stop. I think she bought it off amazon. Her dog looks so sweet with it on as there are little angel wings attached.
