Back when I asked readers about kitchen gadgets, so many of you told me about your favorite gadgets and I ordered way too many things. One of the things I ordered was this Maxam Vegetable Chopper.
It wasn’t outrageously expensive but it was more than I usually pay for kitchen gadgets. I have a couple of mandolins. I have the food processor that fits on my Bosch mixer. I have an old Cuisinart that still works fine. I have a mini something that I really like.
The Maxam arrived on July 5 and I usually open things and try them the minute they arrive. I kept contemplating . . should I send it back or keep it. Honestly, it’s not so much about the money but about space! Where am I going to put the darned thing? I had just about convinced myself to send it back but I’m a firm believer in not ordering things and then sending them back unless they’re defective so yesterday I said . . I’m going to at least try it.
I made hash browns for breakfast and I had to try the waffle cutter.
I fried them up real quick in a little olive oil and they were so good! The waffle cut potatoes alone made me decide to keep and enjoy this cutter.
It’s very easy to use, very easy to assemble and very easy to clean.
The gizmo sticks by suction to the countertop and it doesn’t move! I think it’s going to be a favorite kitchen gadget for many years. I think Addie will be thrilled to cut potatoes using that thing.
I didn’t take the time to go back and see who it was that recommended it but if you see this . . Thanks!

You are welcome. The cheese grater attachment is my favorite and I use it on a regular basis!

I bought what I think was an earlier generation of this that was made my King Kutter. I loved the ruggedness of it and used it a lot but the attachment that secured it to the counter top (suction) was tenuous and ultimately failed completely. I’ve looked into replacing that base but the cost of replacement scared me off since I wasn’t convinced it would be any better. This base is a different design. Did you have any challenges getting it to stay in place while you are cranking?

I’ve had a similar one in my kitchen for years. My DIL ordered one of the new ones, and just loves it. My son got used to using it when he lived with us a few years back. I have a mandoline and food processor, but this is my go-to for many things!
