It’s so much easier to order yarn than it is to find yarn in the stash but the only way I’m ever going to reduce the stash is to dig and find what I need.
Today I decided I wanted to make Bridgeport Cowl. It was added to my Ravelry queue in November, 2014 and the only time I add projects to my queue is when I buy yarn to make them. According to the queue, I was going to use Squoosh Fiberarts Ultra DK.
I keep a spreadsheet of all my ESK yarn.
Sure enough . . there it was listed. I wanted to use Crash and Tangelo. For some yarns, I have a spreadsheet that tells which tub they’re in.
This Squoosh yarn was not listed in any of the tubs so that means it was in the “catch all” tubs and there are more of those than I’d like to admit.
It only took looking through three tubs before I found it. Then I got it wound.
Sometimes I wish I didn’t have a stash . . I could just get online and order yarn as needed. The problem is that, at most shops, unless I spend at least $100, I have to pay shipping so I wouldn’t get online and order two skeins of yarn. I’d order enough to get free shipping and that’s part of the reason I ended up with the stash. It really is nice to be able to make just about anything I want to make and use stash yarn. I need to spend some time and get all those tubs organized so I can go right to what I need and not have to dig through multiple tubs. Some day I’ll do that . . not any time soon!

I remember fondly your days of enhancing your quilting stash, but I will back you up on ‘needing’ a giant knitting stash, too! I will also wholeheartedly wish you the best of luck in finding a skein or two among your many, many, many stash buckets!

I’ve been sorting and re-arranging the fiber supplies. My sock yarn stash has expanded WAY beyond where it is supposed to be. I also have a separate stash for weaving, and that made me says “yikes” too. I need to knit like the wind and weave like the wind! I should go at least a couple of years without buying any yarn or fiber for spinning. I know that’s not going to happen, but I can pretend… 🙂

My fabric stash is and has been wildly out of control for far too long and even though I’ve given very large amounts away to my church group, I need to donate TONS more. Ugh!!

I love that cowl pattern – haven’t noticed that one before. I do have my ESK yarns separated from the rest for the yarnathon projects but I am envious of your spreadsheet. Sounds like a good project to save for me to do on some frigidly cold winter weekend.

Your yarn stash is much more organized than either my fabric stash or my yarn stash! I just have labels on some of the boxes.
I love the Latvian Braids on that cowl pattern.
