Our big fig tree continues to amaze me. I keep trying to take a picture that will give you an idea of how huge it is but without me standing in front of it, I’m not getting a good perspective image.
You can see that it is pretty darned big. It’s at least 10′ tall and probably wider than that.
I’ve never seen a fig tree with so many figs. It’s like counting your chickens before they hatch though . . til they’re ripe and picked, I can’t count on them. The grasshoppers are awful. Birds may find them. Heck, my luck . . snakes like figs!
I keep watching this big one. It’s so huge. I think it should be ripe enough to pick tomorrow.
Everywhere I look on that tree . . figs . . and more figs!
The branches grow right down on the ground. Anywhere I step, I’m stepping on a branch or figs. I still haven’t figured out how I”m going to reach the top figs.
I never forget what may be lurking under those low branches. My tall snake boots are scheduled to arrive on Thursday. I’m so hoping they get here earlier!

Judy, have Vince cut a v-notch in the open top of a can and attach it to a long pole. You can reach up to the fig and slip the can under it and cut the attachment with the sharp notch. The fig will fall into the can -Voila!

WoW mine don’t turn that dark when rip. They just turn on the bottom. Every time it rains here it puts on more. I took and rooted two for the new house one is doing great the other not so but will watch and see. We lived next door to a little old school teacher when my daughter and she got her hooked on them when she was about 3. Her tree was 100 years old ad huge like yours. Ours that we have are ever bearing and will make till the frost comes or until it gets to hot an dry. Do you make fax strawberry jam with some of yours? i bet you could make rasberry too. Just use rasberry jello instead of strawberry..

That purple fig is the biggest I have ever seen. I have an average size fig tree that does ok since it’s in partial shade. I treasure it because it grew from a cutting my father gave me. I remember my mother making fig preserves, but I don’t think I have enough to do that. It’s ok though. The butterflies like the really ripe, split figs!

I was over at my Sunday School teacher’s the other day and his is about the size of yours with figs everywhere!!! He brought me a bag of figs yesterday to church. Must be different species than yours but it’s one that I gave him probably 7-8 years ago. I got one for myself at the same time but kept it in a pot since I knew we weren’t staying in that house (wish I’d done that with the pecan tree–best one ever!!). My fig that I planted in the ground when I moved here 4 years ago has JUST started to look like it might do something one of these days!
