When I left to go to our weekly knitting group, I had completed Row 6 of the 7th repeat of Chart B on my Reciprocate Shawl. Since I’ve completed six repeats, I pretty much have the pattern in my head. A glance here and there at the instructions and I’m good. Normally, I take something very simple (VERY simple) to the knitting group because we’re a lively bunch. Lots of talking, and plenty of laughing, obviously means I cannot knit anything that required even the smallest amount of concentration.
The pattern is not hard at all. I had not made any mistakes knitting the first six repeats but with all the activity at the knitting group, I messed everything up. I knitted two rows, realized I had dropped a stitch in the design that mean I had to ripped back three rows – including most of the last row I had knitted while at home because I messed it up when knitting the next row; knitted two rows and by then four hours had passed and we were breaking up and going home. I got home and realized I had made another mistake and had to rip back farther.
It got to be bed time and Vince said “Are you coming to bed?” and I said “When I at least catch up to where I was this time yesterday!”
At 2 a.m., I had finished Row 6 of the 7th repeat and was back to where I was before I got to the knitting group!
I’m going back to knitting plane Jane socks while at the knitting group. I cannot talk, pay attention to three conversations and stay on track with pattern knitting.
But, it sure is a fun group. A few of the ladies I had met through quilting but didn’t know that well but now I’ve gotten to know them and a few other ladies and they’re some really great ladies. At least two of them yesterday never picked up their knitting .. too busy talking. I know a third (ME!) who would have better off not touching her knitting while there! 🙂

That shawl is beautiful…love the color and the stitch pattern… the ONLY thing I knit in a social setting is plain jane vanilla stockinette socks… I have way too much fun talking and the precludes any bit of attention being paid to my knitting…oh well… there is always someone who is happy with a new pair of socks.
