Chad called Vince for Father’s Day. Chad and Nicole are looking for land to buy and they had been out looking at some plot and Vince and Chad got to talking about land . .
Vince: We’re retiring at Navarre Beach.
Chad: Florida?
Vince: Yep . . your mom hasn’t agreed to that yet.
Chad: You know what I would do if I were you? I’d sell everything, buy a camper and live in that . . travel around everywhere!
Vince: What about your mom’s 2 truckloads of yarn, 10 truckloads of fabric and 50 sewing machines?
Chad: Sell everything!
I was in the background screaming . NO! I’M NOT DOING IT! I wanted to say 2 truckloads of yarn? You have no idea! 🙂
The thought of Vince and me living in a camper . . seriously makes me laugh. As long as there’s a TV and a recliner, he would be somewhat happy. I don’t think he wants to be in such a small enclosed area with me, with not a lot to do. I drive him nuts most of the time. He turns the TV on and immediately falls asleep – doesn’t matter what time of day or night it might be. I’m always talking . . talking while I knit, talking while I cook, talking while I’m on the computer. Sometimes he looks at me and I know he wants to say “Don’t you have something you can go do?” and then he thinks better of it but he often will say “Do you need to take care of the chickens?” or “Have you spent any time with Boots today?” or “Is there anything in the garden you still need to do?”
I believe the last thing I have to think about is living in a camper with Vince. Besides, knowing how Vince likes to save money, our “camper” would probably be a tent!

LOL! My husband is a long time RVer. . . I have been an RVer since I married him. His greatest dream is to hook the trailer up and travel around the entire country for at least 6 months.
I told him to have a wonderful trip! LOL
We have a 30′ travel trailer and we can not get out of each others way at times. There is no way that I would be able to go for months at a time in it. . . . sometimes even a weekend is too long.
I like that I can go in the basement (where my sewing area is) and have alone time while he “watches” tv in the livingroom (on the recliner with his eyes closed).

My husband and I had this conversation recently. He wants to take one to Colorado next summer. I told him to enjoy his journey. Paddington and I will be happy right here at home. There is no way I am doing something like that for the long term or the short term.

I’ve sometimes thought of traveling in a travel trailer or smaller motorhome….but by myself, no hubby. Then I think of all the hooking up and unhooking, dumping tanks, etc. etc. and I think why? I can be comfortable at home and just look at the pictures all the RVers post to blogs. I think I must have lost my adventurousness somewhere in my 40s or 50s. 🙂 Where is Navarre Beach, FL anyway? I here the northern part of FL is fairly affordable and nice in three seasons of the year. Hot, humid and miserable in the summer though.

For god’s sake, don’t let him watch Tiny Living on HGTV. LOL

We spent 4 months in a 40 foot 5th wheel trailer for the last few winters. It takes a little getting used to. We are looking for a more permanent winter home. Tried FL, nope. Tried AZ….going back. Thinking it is better to shop around and make certain we like the area and our 5th wheel is pretty roomy.

My best friend and her husband did exactly that when they retired. They sold their house, put their furniture in storage, bought an RV and traveled the country for almost 2 years. They did have some breaks from the camper when they house sat for friends around the country who were traveling elsewhere but mostly they were in the RV. They loved it, but their first grandchild was born, and they wanted to be close enough so she would know them and so they could make memories with her, so they bought a little house back home and will now be part-time RVers. I couldn’t do it. but they loved it all and saw a lot of this beautiful country!!

As you know, I spend winters living in a 40 foot motorhome which is quite comfortable. Remember one year I took the longarm and Mike set it up for me in an enclosed cargo trailer–had to run a generator to run the longarm as we were out in the desert without hookups?? We have a house in AZ now but until it’s completely finished we will continue to stay in the motorhome.

We sold everything and were full timers in a 40ft motorhome for 10 years. Enjoyed every minute of it. Just wake up in the mornings and decide which way to go or just stay where you are for a few days, weeks.

Maybe the 4 of you should buy a piece of land (big) together and you can build your dream home on it!

This made me laugh, because you know Paul and I lived the last 5 years of his life full time in a 30-ft. 5th wheel. We never got in each other’s way. He did occasionally grumble about the weight of fabric on the axle, but when we weighed, we were fine. LOL I carried quite a bit of fabric, two sewing machines, and my rotary cutting tools. Most of my stash lived at my best friend’s house, but I had enough with me, and bought more on the road, that I could quilt any time, anywhere.
I’m a nightowl and Paul was an early-rising rooster, so we each had alone time. Paul spent a lot of time outside, and I spent a lot inside. We took walks together. We traveled 38 states in those 5 years, and I stitched on something almost every mile while he drove. We spent a month parked in the woods or an RV park we liked, or a week, or overnight and moved on, as we felt like. I wouldn’t trade those years for anything, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Florida is humid. =)

I had always wanted to see this country…so we bought a 32 ft. Class A Motorhome about 7 yrs ago. We live in southern CA and often take trips for a week or two around here, to northern Ca, to AZ, NV or NM etc. Then about once a year we take off for about 3 months. The only part of the country we have missed to date is the north east and we are headed there in about 3 weeks. I take a small sewing machine and sit it up most evenings and have pieced a lot of tops this way….then quilt them when I get home. I take one Instant Pot and one Air Fryer with me so cooking and clean up are easy (I use to use mostly corelle, now use mostly paper plates). We love it! Have seen so many amazing places!! And have seen countless quilt stores!!! But we still have our “land home” to return to.
