This evening the UPS guy drove up and I went out and he said “If you walk down to your mail box, be careful. There were two rattlesnakes in your driveway. I tried to run over them but couldn’t.” I wanted to say “Do I look like I would walk that far and back?” But, I thanked him for telling me. I’m sure there are rattlesnakes everywhere right now.
I asked Vince if he wanted to go down and see if we could find them but he didn’t want to. I went out in the garden and after a while, Vince came out and said he was going to look for the snakes.
I asked him to look macho and he said “This is not a macho gun!” That’s ok . . it will kill rattlesnakes!
The picture kinda reminded me of the picture of the deer I took in MO except the deer was under a walnut tree and my “dear” was under a mesquite tree!
So . . off Vince went . . down the driveway.
He wasn’t gone long. I looked up through the garden fence and he was coming back. I didn’t hear any shots so I knew he hadn’t found any snakes.
The rattlesnakes were safe for another today.

Good eating. Had them a lot while I lived in NM.
JudyL says
I’ve eaten them too but most of the ones we have around here are fairly small and aren’t worth the effort.

I am glad I live where I can call wildlife control. These state/?county workers come and get them if they can be found. I loath and dispise snakes!!
Diane in CA says
So you live in TX with rattlers, scorpions, snakes that eat your eggs, critters that try to eat your chickens, grasshoppers that eat your crops if the hail doesn’t beat it down first, searing heat, freezing cold and you still haven’t started packing for MO?
JudyL says
My thoughts exactly! Seriously, it seems much worse than it really is. We had brown recluse spiders, poisonous snakes along the creek beside our house, tornadoes, snow and ice, and . . the red tag man in MO so, except for Addie being in MO, I still love Texas and most people will tell you after being here for a while, Texas never lets go. Once you get here, you don’t often leave so my guess is we’re here to stay. . bugs, snakes and all!

And he criticises your footwear? Those don’t look like snake hunting boots to me!
JudyL says
I said “No! Put your boots on!” but he wasn’t getting off the driveway so I think he was safe enough. Around here, I’m not even sure crocs are safe for wearing inside. 🙂
