Today I was thinking that it might be fun to show where I started knitting and where I ended knitting each evening. Then I thought it might be fun (more for me than for you) to talk about the day as a whole so I’ll try that for a while and see how it goes.
My goal for today was to get to 32 stitches on the needle. I made it to 34 so that’s good. My goal for tomorrow is to get 40 stitches on the needle. I’m thinking that should be easy enough but who knows . . the days I think I can get so much done are the days I get so little done.
I did zero cooking as far as meals. I had zucchini bread for breakfast. Vince didn’t come home for lunch so I had leftover squash, beans and brisket for lunch. I was going to have a sandwich for dinner but he wanted Thai so we went and picked that up and brought it home to eat.
I did put up 10 pints of beans and I intervened in a chicken squabble.
I was sitting on the porch this morning shelling beans and there was a commotion in the chicken coop. This time of year I’m afraid it’s a snake so I went out there, looked around and didn’t see anything. I came back to the porch and was back to shelling beans when it started again. Maybe there was a snake and I just missed it so I went back out there. Now I could see what the problem was.
One Dominique hen has been sitting on a nest for about a week. Apparently she got up to do something and a Buckeye moved in and was sitting on the eggs like they were her babies. The Dominique hen was mad and she didn’t care who knew it. Figuring they would work it out, and happy I didn’t have to deal with a snake, I went back to shelling beans. The squawking and screeching went on and and on. I was thankful we don’t have close neighbors. These chickens would have kept me in trouble in Missouri where we had neighbors. Finally, I figured even chickens need someone in authority to intervene every now and then so I went out there, picked up the Buckeye, took her off the nest, the Dominique resumed her position on the eggs and everyone lived happily ever after . . at least for today.
I sprayed the peach trees with Neem oil. The stink bugs are determined to get some of the peaches. I picked plums and a few tomatoes, watered all the fruit trees on this side of the high fence and, as you saw, I knitted a bit.
Tomorrow I hope to get to at least row 40 and get a few rows done on a baby blanket I’m working on. I’ll show pictures of that tomorrow.

Really liking the Workday Scarf. I have added it to my Ravelry library and thinking I need to look through my stash as surely I have a skein that would be good for this one. Reminds me of the Hitchhiker with a twist. And my husband said yesterday he thinks he’s harvested as many peaches as we are going to get. The critters (birds, wasps, etc) are just eating them as fast as they can. I’m wondering if Neem oil would work. And I sprayed my Meyer lemon trees yesterday as I’ve found scale on both of them. Not a bad infestation and I washed them totally as best as I could, rinsed well, and swabbed alcohol with a Q-tip in spots as well. That was at dusk last night and we got .8″ of rain between 6-8am this morning so guess I’ll be repeating that process.

Oh Thanks for talking about your fruit trees, I was watering mine. Meant to turn it off an hour ago, ran out and turned it off. I would have gone to bed and forgot totally. It should be good for awhile now.
