Vince and I have been watching shows about healthy eating and there’s not a whole lot healthy about these things . . probably nothing, in fact, but I love them. I don’t buy them except when I’m traveling from here to MO. I always stop at one little pit stop and get a package and that’s part of my junk food for the road.

I recently had a birthday and Vince and I went out to eat. He wanted to know if I wanted to get a Blizzard (speaking of healthy eating!) because the cotton candy Blizzard is my favorite and it’s only around for a limited time. I told him no . . I didn’t really want a Blizzard. Then he insisted we go to United or Walmart and buy a cake. NO! I do not like storebought cake. I’m not a huge fan of cake anyway but those cakes in the stores . . I just don’t like them.

Then I said . . Oh . . I want Zingers. Vince looked at me like . . Really? Yep, that’s what I want for my birthday. We went to United. No Zingers. We went to Kroger. No Zingers. Vince said “We’ll have to go to Walmart.” Nope, not going to Walmart. It’s my birthday and I get to say no! We stopped at a convenience store/gas station on the way home and went in, looked around and were just fixing to leave without seeing them and I noticed them.

Yay! I got my Zingers for my birthday!

  1. They use to be called Twinkies here till Hostess bought that company. I’m glad you got want you wanted for your birthday cake and enjoyed each and every bite. Happy Belated birthday to by the way.

    • I don’t think Zingers and Twinkies are the same, Wanda. Twinkies have no frosting. (Guess I’m just a junk-food trivia geek!! )

    • Helen is correct. Twinkies and Zingers are not the same. Twinkies were easy to find. I saw something similar (Tasteecake maybe??) but it said it had butterscotch frosting and I didn’t think that would satisfy my Zinger craving.

      • Tastykakes are out of Philadelphia and are delicious…but are definitely not the same! The butterscotch Krimpets are about the only Tastykakes I don’t like…but the chocolate ones are delicious!

    • Thank you! Yes, I was tired and there was no way I was going to Walmart. After our experience there Sunday, I told Vince if I can’t be in and out of Walmart by 9 a.m., I am not going.

  5. Zingers – the perfect birthday cake! Hope it was a great day. I will admit to a certain addiction to raspberry ones with the coconut but only buy them once or twice a year (tho right now I could really go for one!)

  6. Happy Belated Birthday! I’m not a big cake person either (unless it is pound cake), but I do like brownies. If I’m given a choice I’d choose brownies and ice cream for my birthday. I’m glad you got your choice of Zingers!

    Tell Vince I love Dairy Queen too. Has he tried Salted Caramel Truffle Blizzard??????? OMgoodness. It’s lethal and my vice. I try to stay away and when there get a little one. You’ve ruined me. Have to have one TODAY.

  8. I too love Zingers. Use to buy them at work from the machine. Over by the lab so I had a long walk from Pediatric Unit to the lab to deliver something it was a treat. Retired now so none of that anymore and anyway they took the machines out of the hospital as unhealthy.
    I am lactose intolerant and therefore no ice cream for me.

  16. Happy birthday Judy! I love a zinger on a road trip too! We realized a few years ago that our kids had never had zingers or the chocolate cake ones with white icing across the top (ho-ho?) so we stopped at a convenience store and introduced them to goo junk food for the road!

  17. Isn’t it funny the things we eat when traveling?? When I am in Arkansas I allow myself only one of those pink peanut/sugar patty things–absolutely pure sugar but I love them!
