Camp Loopy at The Loopy Ewe began in 2011 and I think I’ve done every one of them but this year, I decided I wasn’t going to do it. The summer is so busy with the garden and I struggle to keep up with the garden and get the knitting done. Also, the past few years, Nicole has done Camp Loopy too and we had so much fun planning projects and talking about what we were doing and video chatting and showing each other what we’re making. Now that she’s working, she has no time for knitting so she wasn’t going to do Camp Loopy. Decision made: I wasn’t either!
I kept thinking about the year we moved here. My biggest issue with the move was “How am I going to get my Camp Loopy yarn since we were moving right when the August yarn would be shipped?” I think I ended up having it sent to the wife of one of Vince’s co-workers and then they gave the yarn to Vince since I was in transit. Believe me, there were MANY issues with that move and I was most worried about the yarn! No, really, that wasn’t the biggest of my concerns. My biggest concern was probably how I would drive 10 hours crying once I’d said goodbye to Chad and Nicole.
I know Chad . . they were probably saying “Hurry . . Go!” I was clinging and still thinking I had time to back out. No . . I wasn’t thinking that. Yes . . I was! 🙂
Anyway, back to Camp Loopy – there’s a nice discount if you order your yarn during “Camp Week”. That passed and I thought I had made it but then there was a blog post saying it wasn’t too late. You’d no longer get the discount but so long as your project is finished by the end of the month, I guess you’re in.
I was kinda feeling sorry that I was missing out so I said . . heck, I’m going to do it! For the June project, it has to use at least 400 yards and be something with texture. I decided to do Workday Scarf and I ordered Magpie Fibers’ Swanky Sock yarn in a beautiful blue (501’s), which just arrived today.
The yarn feels so soft . . it does have cashmere in it. This is the first time I’ve used this yarn and I believe I’m going to love it.
Now . . let me get off the computer and get started knitting since I’m already almost a week behind!

I definitely need to try some of that brand of yarn. I just love that shade of blue.

Just looking at all the pretty things you knit makes me wish knitting needles and I had a better relationship.

I had to laugh – glad you jumped on the train. So, have you signed up for Tour de Sock yet? I know I’ll never get the socks done – still haven’t done last years but I love the patterns and it’s a good cause.

Cashmere is so soft! I did Camp Loopy once (a couple of years ago), but I find it hard to keep up. I just don’t knit very fast, and I have so many other things to do. One of the knitting groups I’m in does ufo wars each summer, (see how many languishing projects, which must have been started before January 1, you can finish.) I have found that to be a better fit for me and my schedule. I may be seduced into doing Camp Loopy again some year, though. We’ll see…

Beautiful color, made me look up the yarn to see the other colors. Judy, I moved recently to the NE Dallas area. Would you believe I am located between two wonderful Knit shops. One has a beautiful selection, does KALs, and will have a sock teacher. The other shop is two stories with more nice yarn than I’ve ever seen, lots of Noro Silk Garden. She even designed a shrug-jacket pattern that’s been published by Noro. Couldn’t find it on your blog, but I think you said you had a favorite basic sock pattern. Could you refresh my memory to which pattern it is? Available on Ravelry? Yep, I’ve already bought sock yarn, and yarn for a couple of sweaters am thinking about a shawl KAL that looks yummy. Hope I’m getting to finally have shops and classes to boost my knitting abilities. And that doesn’t even count the quilt shops here that have also kept me busy. Being near family, knitting and quilt shops has certainly livened up my life. I may not buy any new furniture for my new house, just lots of tubs to store yarn and fabric.
