There’s some weird weather pattern that stays right over us. For the most part, rain will look like it’s headed right at us and then it splits and either goes above us or below us . . sometimes both! It seems like town and the lake are getting more rain than they have in some years we’ve been here but we just don’t get squat. Lake Brownwood is so close to being full and that’s such a blessing since that’s the water this entire area counts on for their water supply.
This afternoon, it thundered for hours, the winds picked up, I was so sure we were going to get rain. I even went out and did all the evening chores just in case it rained. Nothing . . not a drop. I just saw on Facebook that a couple of streets in town are closed due to rain.
For those who weren’t reading my blog back in 2011, here’s what the lake looked like when we moved here.
It’s hard to even look at that picture and remember the desperation this area was facing. We’re always thankful for rain and we never seem to have enough on an annual basis. We sometimes get a bit too much at once but we’ll always take what we can get, when we can get it.
As far as today, I believe the rains are going to miss us. I watered the garden this morning, my outside chores are done so I’ll sit and knit for the evening . . I hope. Things have a way of popping up and interrupting my plans!

Hope Brownwood gets some of this Texas wet weather we are having. We’ve had over 2 inches in the last 24 hours and it’s still raining. Pear Valley and Lohn need it, too. My husband is trying some buffalo grass sprigs down there and set up a watering system to keep it going when he is away. And I do remember that photo of Lake Brownwood you had posted. Just horrible. So glad to hear the lake is almost full. I remember when the lakes around Austin were so depleted and then all slowly refilled. Texas weather is not for the faint of heart!

We either have daily rain that keeps the ground saturated and causes yellow rings in the grass (and mushrooms!), or we don’t get rain for weeks. Right now we’re in one of those afternoon thunderstorms cycles, though often they go around us also. We live about an hour and a half from the coast.

The clouds often split & go around us too. Rain to the north, rain to the south, but none for us. People around here blame the hail cannons at the huge tomato greenhouse in O’Neill. They say they’re responsible for the rain clouds splitting. Of course sometimes that’s a blessing in disguise since hail so often comes with the rain.
