Too bad I’m not trying to grow mushrooms because there are tons of them in my keyhole garden.
They’re even growing down the food tube!
We bought “garden soil” in bags and used it when planting our potatoes in the raised beds and we used some of the same dirt in the keyhole. In both places, we had lots of mushrooms pop up but they don’t live long.
Everything else in the keyhole seems to be doing good . . growing fine. I’m having to water but I figured I would.

Are they morels ? hahaha .. okay seriously .. my hubs asked me if they were edible .. I said I have no idea .. and I am not going to tell her to eat them. Cuz I don’t want to be responsible for them going to the hospital (with food poisoning) as I am sure both Judy and Vince are wise enough to know what is edible or not .. (Silly man !!!hahahaha)

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could eat those mushrooms? I love mushrooms but my mother-in-law wound up in the hospital and almost died after eating ones mistaken for good that weren’t. For now, I’ll stick to ones I by out of the store.
Howard Garrett, the Dirt Doctor, often talks about how you can follow a decaying tree root under the ground just by following the ring of mushrooms. Obviously, you don’t have a tree root decaying but you have lots of good stuff going on in that soil. We wound up putting a soaker hose on the top of ours and used it quite a bit. It got better when the plants were big enough to cover the soil and there was less evaporation. One thing for sure, there is less bending than there would be if those plants were on the ground.
I look forward to seeing how the keyhole performs and whether Vince is willing to build a second one. That will be a true testimony to perceived success of the keyhole.
