This afternoon I went out and picked the beans that were damaged – just to get them off the vines so as not to attract bugs. I picked anasazi beans, Mayflower beans and Borlotto Di Vigevano beans. The Mayflower and Borlotto beans are “new to me” beans so I only planted one packet of each. For dinner, I cooked the Borlotto beans and I haven’t heard Vince rave about anything ever like he did those beans. He said “I don’t want to put anything else in my mouth because I only want to taste these beans!” They really were that good. I didn’t even take a picture of our plates but the cooked beans looked and tasted a lot like pinto bean. Vince said they reminded him a bit of boiled peanuts but I think pretty much all fresh beans (as in picked 45 minutes before dinner) have that texture.
The pods are thick and huge but the beans are fairly easy to shell. Thank goodness I ordered two packages of them. I think I can go ahead and plant these where the lettuce was growing. Baker Creek is out of these beans but I’ve asked to be notified when they get more in. I can also save some seeds from our beans but right now, I’d like a truck load of these seeds. They were so good!
I went back outside to look at my Dragon’s Tongue Beans, which are supposed to be related to the Borlotto beans and got sidetracked by the purple green beans. They weren’t damaged too badly . . mostly damage to the leaves and not the beans, but I ended up picking enough of those for one dinner.
Maybe tomorrow night we’ll just have four kinds of beans for dinner, fresh tomatoes and cornbread. That would make me quite happy!

Dinner sounds delicious. Are the beans speckled? Nothing better than fresh vegetables and cornbread. Can you tell I am from the south.
