Every time I walk out to the garden, I ask myself “What is different from last year?” I couldn’t get a thing to grow last year. I didn’t can a single jar of tomatoes. In fact, I don’t think I picked one eggplant last year. I’m not canning tomatoes yet but things look promising. Just praying the hail over the next few days isn’t as bad as they say it might be.
Today was not the day I was supposed to pick squash. My plan is to do that every other day. I still haven’t touched the yellow squash that I picked yesterday except 4 pieces that cooked for lunch yesterday. I went out to the garden to get lettuce for our salad and what did I see? More squash!
The lettuce is just about to bolt so I’m giving lettuce to anyone who will take it.
The carrots are almost ready so I pulled a couple of them for our salads for lunch. The daikon radishes add a bit of spiciness to our salads. I only planted one package of those seeds and we’ve used about half of them. I’ll plant more daikon radishes next year.
I’m thinking by this time next week, I’ll be picking and maybe canning green beans. Such a fun and busy time around here.

Clyde likes to plant something different each year…German Giant radish, salsilate among his trials. What do you like about this diakon radish? Did you order the seeds? Thanks for any info.

When you can string beans (and I include yellow beans in that) do yours become too soft? Mine are not crisp. Any suggestions? I use the canned ones in soups. Just don’t like the texture.

It’s snowing here. I covered my lettuce with plastic bags and brought my tomatoes and herbs (all in pots) into the garage. I can’t believe all the veggies you’re harvesting–my tomatoes aren’t even 8 inches tall yet! (They just went out 10 days ago, which was early around here.)

I’ve made pesto from field greens instead of basil when I have too many greens. You have to freeze it, but it it’s a good way to use up some of those greens…and tasty on grilled cheese sandwiches

My garden is just barely started, and yours is full blast! My carrots, okra, and squash just sprouted about a week ago…
