Tell me again why we have Cat! Does she kill mice? NO! Does she kill snakes? NO! Has she taken over the place? YES!
See the paws? She sleeps upstairs in the shop . . halfway hanging over the edge. This photo was taken from downstairs looking up.
I go outside about 6:30 a.m., feed her and pet her for a few minutes. She eats and then I open the shop door and up the stairs she goes, to her favorite sleeping spot and within minutes, she’s snoozing.
I walked right up on her and she didn’t wake up.
I leaned down and touched her and she did wake up but it was like she was saying “What the heck do you want? Can’t you see I’m trying to sleep?” I know how you feel, Cat. I hate it when I’m awakened from a nap! Good grief . . that Cat sleeps all day.
Sometime around late afternoon, she comes moseying down the stairs, like . did I miss anything today? Then she gets under my car so she can see what’s going on but not put forth too much effort. This morning I saw a big fat lizard scurry right past her. She looked at it and I was thinking . . Do it! Catch it, Cat! Prove to me that you remember what you’re supposed to do! Nope, she watched it walk right in front of her but she never moved.
There she stays until it’s time for me to go put the chickens up. Then I’ll sit in my outside chair and pet her for a while. I go in and she must prowl around all night. Surely after sleeping all day, she doesn’t sleep all night too.
In the meantime, we’re being overrun by snakes but so long as they’re not under my car or upstairs in the shop, I suppose they’re not bothering Cat at all!

I think cats can sleep up to 22 hours a day… 🙂

I decided to look it up…one source said they sleep 12-16 hours a day and the other said 16-20. Very young cats and very old cats sleep longer.

You need to borrow my three cats! I’ve been gifted with many dead mice, lizards, baby snakes, and ugly green grasshoppers this Spring.

Cat is doing her job! She’s a beautiful creation. You are deriving pleasure just looking at her. That’s her primary job. She’s also intimidating. Can’t you see it? She’s scaring off all kinds of badness but she’s in stealth mode. Perhaps she is killing other snakes and doesn’t feel the need to flaunt the kill in front of your because she knows you would feel compelled to dispose of the remains. Give her a break.

You DON’T have Cat. Cat has YOU! ? And that makes her lucky and smart.

Judy it is so refreshing to read your comments about Cat!!! You are so innocent of the ways of cats and it reminds me of my husband! When we first got a cat, he could not understand why they only wanted attention on their terms, why they slept so much, etc.!!! He was never allowed to have a cat growing up! His parents hate cats; they kill birds! Hello! It is natural instinct!!!! We have had cats throughout our 29 years of marriage and he says he would never have a dog again! Cats are so independent while dogs are so needy.

Well she /it is a cat. They life is slow and lazy first of all. And yes they do most of their hunting at night they can see very well at night. But if you feed them to well they will not hunt unless bringing you gifts. They have excellent ears and she/it does hear you but knows your walk by now so doesn’t be come alarmed. My idea is that cats are just for our joy and nothing else. They give unconditional love and generally don’t ask for much. They can fend fro themselves but like our company. She hangs around for the petting you give her .

Look at those cute paws! Cat looks so much like my tortie girl that I lost 15 years ago this week. Love hearing about her (Cat).

Judy: just face it- she has you and Vince wrapped around her itty bitty claw. Be glad that she doesn’t bring you presents. I remember a cat of ours-her favorite thing to do was to bring things in while I was eating breakfast… Oh joy let me tell ya .. hahaha I moved quite fast many times while screaming for my husband !!!!
