When we bought this house, one of the first things I wanted to do was screen in either part or all of the porch.
It’s at least 10′ wide . . maybe 12′ wide and it goes across the length of the house. We’ve debated taking the double windows in the bedroom out and making that a door that goes onto the porch and screening in that side, or screening in the middle so that when you walk out the living room doors, you’re in the screened area and then leaving one or both ends open for grilling or whatever. Screening in that porch hasn’t been a priority — too many other things to get done — garden and orchard fences, chicken coops built, irrigation lines run . . there’s always something.
But . . guess who IS getting a screened porch!
The little chickens! Vince is building a porch for them and he’s going to close it in and they can go “outside” and stay on the porch til we get a new fence built for them. First, we have to decide where we’re going to put the fence.
I jokingly told him . . “You’re building a screened porch for them and I’ve been asking for one for 5 years? Next thing you know, they’ll have satellite radio on their porch!” I’ve been asking for him to hook up the outside speakers ever since we’ve been here. He must have felt bad for me so he did get the outside speakers hooked up.
Those little chicks should be thankful we brought them home to live with us because the life of a chicken is pretty darned good around here.

When I was little (before we had air conditioning), we had screens for the front porch. Dad would put them up in the spring and take them down in the fall. I miss that, and I’ve always wanted a house with a big front porch AND a screened in porch!

This made me laugh. My chickens have a elec fenced in area plus a screened in porch AND a sun room. Yes, they have it good. lol.

We had a screened in back porch when I was a kid and we (my sister and I) thought it was SO COOL to sleep out there on occasion. Didn’t have to worry about bugs or bad guys! HA And yes, every animal that comes to your house has it made in the shade.

Made me laugh! It amazes me how much big grown men have no problem with babying our pets and other animals. At one point, we had two very old cats who were having difficulty jumping up to the cat window. My husband built them a ramp with a platform at the top for easy access to the window. They would also use it for sunning.
