Yesterday evening we ate at a little restaurant in Brady, Texas and when we came out to leave, this truck was parked across from us.
See those spikey things coming out of the hubcaps or wheels or whatever they are? Why? I’m sure there’s probably a reason, other than they look funny but I don’t know what the heck the reason would be. The truck was painted a flat black . . looked kinda like a big, old cast iron pot.
I wanted to go back into the restaurant and see if I could guess who was driving it but Vince wouldn’t let me do it!

I asked dh if he knew? He said they’re decorative…seen a lot of them on big trucks. Huh? – I also noticed the upright exhaust stacks and huge bumper…
I googled – here’s what I found: The spike lugnut cover is one of the most popular trends ever in truck chrome. As truckers’ demands for them continue to rise, Empire Chrome Shop is leading the next generation of spikes into our store, and onto the highways! They’ve been described by some as evocative of Mad Max and a post-apocalyptic future in which trucks must become battleships, ready to take on all challengers. Well, you may not have to fit that image just yet, but you’ll certainly make little cars think twice before they get too close! Over the past year, several different takes on this fantastic style have been offered up, including the short-shoulder flange, twisted spike, and extra-long spike. Go with one favorite style or mix-and-match for the ultimate spike look.
Then, dh went on to make a reference to Ben Hur and the chariot wheels…it’s been a looong time since I saw that movie, but I did remember the spiked wheels. hah!

Thx Judy! You sparked a lot of funny conversation here. Hubby said if you’d gone back in the restaurant, you’d have found some big hairy gorilla biker type guy! I said, Well, it might have been a little ole knitting Grandma too. We got sooo ticked, we really laughed!

Mad Max is what I thought of (from what I’ve seen).
Curious the contrast of flat black and big chrome.

The flat black on that truck may have been bed liner instead of paint. My nephew has a body shop & recently painted a whole truck with bed liner. Those big pipes? Mostly for show. They’re big but have a very small opening for the exhaust and make a loud whistling noise. The young guys think it’s cool…I think it’s kind of silly, but then, I’m an old grandma & what do I know about cool? hehe

Seen one here in Corpus a few months ago parked outside Petco……maybe for his killer Chihuahua lol. Just plain ridiculous!

Its a guy thing. Moving the exhaust to come out of the bed just behind/above the cab is a newer fad for high school/college kids. Most of them can do that kind of thing themselves. Oh, yes, the more chrome the better. Ask me how I know these things? I raised boys!

Well, it wasn’t my husband! He does drive a pickup and stays in Brady and eats at the local restaurants when he’s down there to work on his farm. But he hasn’t been down in a few weeks!
