Earlier this week, a friend, Sue, posted a picture on Facebook of donuts she had made. Down another rabbit hole I go!
I love donuts! Of course I do . . they’re halfway like bread and they’re sweet! But as much as I love donuts, Vince had been somewhere the other day and brought home a chocolate glazed donut for me. Who doesn’t know that I don’t like chocolate? Vince! Aside from the chocolate, that was the most awful donut I had ever tasted. I took one bite and went to the trash can and spit it out. Every time I thought about donuts (which happens more often than you might think) or we passed a donut shop, I felt a bit sick. Then I saw the picture of the donuts Sue had made. Hers were Orange Zest Donuts and she used Kim Diehl’s recipe. The recipe was on Kim’s Facebook page. Sue’s donuts looked so amazing, I immediately forgot about that nasty donut Vince brought home and I went straight to Amazon and ordered myself two donut pans. They arrived today.
There’s actually a recipe on the paper insert that came with the donut pans but I kept googling and reading, and reading and googling and ended up kinda combining a couple of ideas . . a bit of sour cream, a bit of buttermilk and then I saw all those peaches I had saved for making “something”. I ran a few of them through the food processor and added half a cup of peach puree to the donuts and then added peach puree to the icing.
They’re so easy to make and I didn’t even have to use a mixer . . just stirred it all up with a spoon.
I keep thinking of all the different flavors I can make. They only bake a few minutes . . most recipes called for baking them less than 10 minutes. Most recipes make one dozen so it isn’t like a cake that lasts two people forever.
For the icing, I just made it in a shallow bowl and dipped the donuts in it . . didn’t even have to spread the icing!
My new obsession — baking donuts! 🙂

Yum! I make the old fashioned raised donuts that you fry for the crew the last day of our cow works. They just about founder on them. These look easier and less messy. Is the consistency different from a raised yeast donut?

I love baked donuts! Not too sweet and not greasy.
I’m sure, like quilt pins and sock pins that I’ve saved more recipes than I will ever use. But yum!

Loved baked donuts. Have already checked out the pans. Checked Kim Diehl’s FB page for any reference to a recipe or book but came away empty. Have a recommendation? I saw cookbooks for donuts but don’t want to play with just any creation. Your donuts look marvelous.
