The first pattern (first of six) of Curious Handmade’s Shawl Society II was released this morning (about 2 a.m.). I had checked before going to bed last night to see if it was out and it wasn’t so I went on to bed and after Vince left for work, I checked that there it was! The first shawl is called “Fairyhill”.
There’s still time to get in on this fun project from the beginning if you’d like to do so.
I knew there was a two color version and a once color version but we hadn’t seen the shawl til the pattern was released. My plan was to make the one color version using Bugga’s 17 Year Cicada colorway.
I kept meaning to wind the yarn into a cake but wanted to see the two color version before doing so. I’m glad I waited because after seeing the two color version, that’s what I want to make. Back to the stash to do a little more digging and I came up with this combination.
The green yarn was already caked and in a bag labeled “Bugga”. I have no idea what color it is. The yarn on the right, also Bugga, is Fairy Wren color. Lucky for me, I even had green beads that I may or may not use. I wasn’t even thinking about color names but was simply digging through a tub of yarn and only after I wrote this paragraph did I realize the pattern is named “Fairyhill” and the yarn is “Fairy Wren”. That’s interesting!
I had hoped to finish the border on my big Miss Grace shawl but right now, that’s mindless garter ridge knitting so I’ll save that and work on it in the evenings when I’m tired or when we’re in the midst of deep conversation. 🙂

Even the one color is variegated, so it wouldn’t be just boring, but I do like the green mixed in. Have fun!

For us non-knitters, would you explain why the yarn needs to stay in a skein until you are ready to use it (then it gets wound into a cake)?

Yay! I have the first 8 rows (that’s only 23 stitches on the needle) done. I’m doing the small single color because that’s what I had yarn for and didn’t want to wait. I’m going to try to set up a Project page in Ravalry. I always wish I would have done this after the fact when I can’t remember the specifics of something I’ve made. I’m gonna try it. Your yarn choice is lovely.

I need a summer knitting project. I have put the Strale sweater aside, I have the sleeves to finish, it’s just too hot to have all that wool on my lap. Thanks for “enabling” me!
