Vince and I have an anniversary coming up in August. Last night, out of the clear blue, we had this conversation:
Vince: Do we have an anniversary coming up?
Me: Yep, sometime soon.
Vince: How many years?
Me: I’m not saying!
Vince: 18 years?
Me: No!
Vince: 17 years?
Me: No!
Vince: I know it’s been more than 16 years! What year did we get married?
Me: I’m not saying!
Finally I told him it will be the 20th anniversary. And then I told him . . he’s in big trouble for not remembering that very important date but honestly, I’ve forgotten it more than a few times.

Our 20th anniversary is next Wednesday. We like to travel for milestone anniversaries, so we’ll be in SAN Antonio next week. Hope you two have a wonderful anniversary when it rolls around.

Milestone anniversary celebrations have never seemed to turn out well for us. On our 1st anniversary, I was co-hosting a wedding shower for a friend (I didn’t get to pick the date). We spent our 20th at a curriculim night at school, our 25th in the emergency room with a kid with a collapsed lung, our 30th at a tool show in Chicago that DH was required to go to for work. My son got married 3 days after our 35th anniversary so we were too busy with wedding stuff to celebrate. I don’t remember how we spend our 40th. This year, will be our 44th. Next year, when it’s our 45th, I’m kind of afraid to plan anything for fear one of us will fall and break a hip or something!!! LOL. Our wedding day must have been an omen. Husband got sick that day. Made it through the wedding reception, but was really not feeling well by the time we left. We went back to my parents house to change, then left for our hotel. When we got there, I discovered I had forgotten my suitcase. So on my wedding night, I wore his shirt to bed, drank the complimentary champagne by myself and watched Jonny Carson while he wheezed and groaned in the bed next to me. It’s been a good marriage, but the anniversaries … not so much!! .

Poor Frank forgot my birthday the first year we were married (it’s Jan 4 and we’d gotten married 11/24!!). But then I wound up being the one who never could remember the exact day we were married. LOL

We just reached our 47th this month. Just happy we are still together & in reasonably good health.

My husband and I would have celebrated our 50th this year if he hadn’t passed two years ago. I celebrated anyway, not in a big way, but you have to be mindful of an anniversary that means you’ve known each other all your life. He was an Army brat, I moved a lot between a lot between divorced parents. So not everyone has these long term friends or partners.Hope you have a happy anniversary, #20 is significant. Be nice if you could do something fun, but I bet your garden keeps you close to home. Enjoy your milestone.
