Our predicted low for Wednesday night had been anywhere from 33° to 42°. I had been watching that low for several weeks and had held back half of my tomato plants til after Wednesday night. 33° is too close to 32° and even at 33°, we might have lost the tomatoes. I had convinced myself that it was not going to drop below 40°. I had covered the small tomatoes up with straw but some of the tomatoes and peppers from the greenhouse are pretty big and I couldn’t do much for them.
When I woke up Thursday morning, I ran out with a flashlight to look at the temp.
It was 36°. Not ideal but not too and definitely nothing I could do about it. But, that’s the end of our cold nights so the rest of the tomatoes got planted, along with four more artichokes that I had started from seeds and they were too small to plant when I planted the others so I had kept them in cups and babied them. They’re now planted . . everything is planted!
I have Chinese Greens, Pak Choi and Artichokes in this area. The Pak Choi and Chinese Greens will be gone in a month or so but the artichokes can stay. They’re perennial. In fact, some of the Pak Choi is already going to seed. Crazy to have day so hot that the greens are bolting and yet have a 36° night.
The anasazi beans . . all the beans in fact, have sprouted.
75 tomato plants! Let’s hope for a good tomato crop. I didn’t can any last year and I’d love to can some tomatoes this year.
There are volunteers popping up everywhere. Who wants to be this is spaghetti squash. There was so much of that last year that I didn’t even plant any this year. We ate spaghetti squash at least once a week and just last week I told Vince . . I’ve had enough . . and threw out about 2 dozen of them.
My fingers are crossed that we’ll have a good garden this year.

Envy, I’m all envy of your garden. I think there’s still almost a foot of snow in mine.

I envy your garden also. I have one small, new vegetable garden raised box. The wind has really done a number on my small plants. Not to sure they will all recover.?

Looks great. Our garden is still too wet to do anything yet. Maybe this week . . .
