Aren’t these adorable? From cutting out to finishing – 37 minutes, and that includes confusing myself and having to take a picture and ask a question in the Facebook group. Next pair shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes.
Now I have to get a matching pair done for Addie.

Besides taking 37 minutes to make, it cost $4.50 for one yard of fabric which was more than enough for Nicole’s leggings.

Cute!! I don’t have a special machine, but could I use a knit needle in a regular machine and double needle to hem?
JudyL says
Cynthia, I’m going to defer to someone who knows more than I do. My opinion is that you would have to use a stretch stitch in addition to a stretch/knit needle. There’s a whole lot of stretch on these seams and I think a serger would be quite beneficial but if you could buy some inexpensive knit (even if a small piece) and sew a seam and stretch the heck out of it and see what happens.

I sew knits all the time and I just have a regular machine. I think the answer is that you can use a double needle to hem. I did it on a few items but then I decided to just start using a regular stretch stitch because the twin needle was a little too fiddly to me. For something super stretchy like leggings I would test out some samples first to see which stitch is best for you. I sew bras and had to experiment a bit to see which stitch worked best with no popping of the seams.

Yes it would be best to use a knit or a ball point needle, when sewing these and stretch a bit when doing so. Sew slow so you don’t pull too much and break your needle.

looks like matching the fabric pattern on the leggings could be a challenge but you did a very nice job of it
JudyL says
It was challenging! That fabric wiggles and squirms and was a real pain. Not sure I’d make leggings out of a highly patterned fabric again but I sure do like them.
