Addie’s Valentine’s Day outfit arrived Saturday. It was Sunday before Nicole had a chance to try it on. The skirt was too big in the waist. We decided the easiest thing to do was just put it away til next year. I could add a ruffle if the skirt is too short next year and I can buy a larger shirt and applique more squares of hearts.
Addie loved the shirt . . so much so that she slept in the shirt.
Yesterday morning, Nicole told her she would wear the shirt with a pair of jeans that has a couple of red glittery hearts on them. Nicole sent me this picture . . Addie got herself dressed and was determined to wear the skirt.
Does she look so proud of herself for having gotten dressed? She is one determined little girl! I told Nicole to send the jeans with her in case she couldn’t keep the skirt on.
There are those boots that are really slippers but she loves them!
Nicole said she had the jeans but Addie wouldn’t let her bring them in and she did manage to keep the skirt on all day.
I asked if Addie wanted me to make more skirts and yes . . she wants more! More skirts she will get!

She is so cute.
If she is like my grands, that outfit will fit next year. They just get longer and leaner.

I tried making clothes for my grands a few years ago. It was fun, but difficult when they were hundreds of miles away and I couldn’t fit them properly. I look forward to trying it again someday though. Addy is so cute all dressed up for Valentines Day. You made an adorable outfit for her!

What a sweet little (but growing fast!) princess!!! It’s such fun to make such cute garments….especially when there’s so much excitement on the receiving end. I look forward to future style shows.
Glad to see you didn’t get blown/washed away in recent weather happenings. We were on the southern edge and basically missed out!

I have the cutest skirt pattern…..I make lots of skirts for my 7 year old grandaughter……I buy 11/2 yard of 1 inch wide grosgrain ribbon….with a design on the ribbon….right now I have some lime green with white polka dots….then I buy 1 yard of fabric to match…..I find it is easier to match the ribbon with the fabric than the other way around……get the measurements of Addie’s waist and the length Nicole wants it….cut the length from the width of the fabric and use the 1 yard length to gather around the waist….sew down a pocket to put the elastic on the top of the skirt….then take the ribbon and sew it face down to the back of the skirt bottom and then flip over and sew down on the front of the skirt….no hem…..sew up the back I usually leave the band open so my daughter can determine how tight the elastic should be and then she sews the elastic together and closes the pocket…..

And she looks adorable! I loved sewing for the kids when they were little. They were always SO excited to wear what i made and that just tickled me to pieces so I sewed a lot of clothes for them. They have both told me that they would lay in bed at night and listen to the hum of my sewing machine and fall asleep excited to see what they’d have to wear the next morning. I see more fabric buying in your future because there are such cute prints out there that Addie will love. Lucky little girl!

There is no greater feeling than that of being Grandma. And the feeling of when your baby girl loves something you made for her. I just love this feeling!

Addie looks so cute in her new outfit. It is so wonderful to see that she LOVES whatever you make for her and is anxious to wear them. Some kids aren’t so willing. You are lucky to have such a sweet and cute little granddaughter to sew for. She is very lucky to have such a talented grandma that knows how to do so many neat things. Have fun dressing your real life little Barbie doll.

Susan says
Did you make your own pattern for the skirt? It is really cute.
Katherine says
I used to sew shirts and pants in cute prints for my boys and I would just leave a little section open in the back inside of the waistband. I would use a safety pin to get the elastic right.
I even did cuffs on a pair of St. Patricks pants, so I could just uncuff the next year.
They really loved all those while they were little.
