Sock knitting is one of my favorite things. Isn’t it funny how some people love knitting sweaters, some love knitting shawls, some love knitting socks.
I’ve never done Sock Madness but it’s kinda like Tour-de-Sock . . patterns are released and there’s competition to see who can get them knitted the fastest. With Tour-de-Sock, we get points based on how quickly you finish the socks. With Sock Madness, I think there’s elimination and the last one one each team wins. I’m not even sure if there are prizes.
Most importantly for me . . I am determined not to buy yarn. I will make it work with what I have. There may be some strange combinations but I can do it.
A “warm up” pattern has been released. It needs two colors and working from the stash, this is the yarn I’ve chosen.
Last night I got started and got as far as the ribbing.
This afternoon I have to go to the dentist. I’m hoping to get past the colorwork section and then I can take it with me to work on while waiting but I never have much of a wait at the dentist so . . maybe I’ll just take a book!

Yay, Sock Madness! It is so much fun. Have you checked out the Treehouse, yet? I’m skipping the warm-up sock only because I have a 2nd sock on the needles, and I have to finish it. If I do that warm-up, I’ll never work on that sock again.
BTW, the Finns/Norwegians/Dutch almost always win. It’s part of the fun to see these incredible knitters make a very complex pair of socks in under 24 hours.

I’m always a cheerleader for sock madness. I’m not sure if I’ll even make that much this year, though. And yes, there are prizes…always for things you don’t expect…which is fun to see!

Judy, you are almost right as far as the ending of Sock Madness goes…the very last round is always a competition between the final competitor from EACH team…the fastest wins. Prizes are contributed by the participants (if they wish to do so – no pressure to contribute!) The organizers of this competition give out prizes for things like First person on each team to finish a pair each round, last person to finish a round on each team, Final finisher….one would expect that…but they also award prizes for obscure things or silly things…one year a lady finished her pair and found a mistake – a glaring one – on one of the socks…instead of ripping it back, she performed sock surgery – complete with Lego representation of the operating room!- and she got a prize for that….sometimes someone has a baby right in the middle of a round and waits to go to the hospital till she finished her sock and sends in the notifications…things like that usually get a prize. And sometimes they award prizes for every more odd things. I’ve competed for the last 10 years…it’s so fun and certainly I learn something new every single year! Have fun and don’t stress the ‘competition’ part…just remember, they are quite strict about length of foot, picture with measuring device, knitting exactly as the pattern says (whether you know an easier way to accomplish said design or not). Welcome to the Madness!
