Sometimes I laugh out loud thinking about how different Vince and I are. He dreams up reasons to leave the house. Even when I’m already out, I have to battle with myself to go do the things I need to do.
Yesterday I was happy to go to the dentist because I was in pain. I had several other places I needed to go but managed to talk myself out of going so today I had to go out again. No getting around it! No talking myself out of it. It was go out alone today or go tomorrow with Vince and be gone longer and end up begging, every place we go, can we please leave now?
My limit is three stops each trip out but when you put it off as long as I have done lately, there’s way more than three stops that have to be made. I left here at 9:00 knowing I had these stops to make.
- Get the oil changed
- Get the tires rotated
- Get more seed potatoes
- Meet Vince for lunch
- Go to the vet to get more heart meds for Speck
- Go by the grocery store
- Fill the car up with gas
- Stop at the pharmacy
That’s the order I come to the places. I passed Merle Norman and thought . . I should stop and get makeup . . but talked myself out of that. The Merle Norman in Joplin is right next to the sushi place and they have a record of what I use. I know .. Joplin is 9 or 10 hours from here but some day I’ll get back to MO to visit the kids.
The oil change sticker on my car was not letting me forget that my oil should have been changed in September. That’s when it was three months since the previous oil change and I know going five months isn’t bad but now I’m going on eight months . . even though I’ve only been almost 3,000 miles in eight months months. Considering that 3,000 miles in eight months includes one (yes, JUST one!) trip to MO, and about 700 miles in trips to a dentist in Abilene and two trips to the endodontist in San Angelo.
Got the oil changed! That was my first stop. For the first time in 5 years of going to the same oil change place, the guy reset my “change your oil” light so now, it won’t come on while I’m driving down the highway!
Got the tires rotated! That was my second stop. The place is so clean and they’re always so nice at Discount Tire . . I feel like I want to just sit there all day and knit.
Next stop .. got the seed potatoes. Today, no mouse scared me. Last time I was there, a mouse was hiding in the bin and made me scream. They were all probably thinking . . city girl!
Met Vince for lunch. You know I’m not going to miss out on food!
Next stop . . got heart meds for Speck. The vet is a good ways out of town so once I did that, I was in the home stretch. It’s always funny to go there. You never know if there will be goats, cows, kittens, birds . . he does it all.
You can see that some of them have on coats and hats. It was cold today. Cold for us . . after having a week or so in the 80’s.
Next stop . . grocery store! It’s so much easier for me to go to the grocery store by myself. Vince is happy to take my list and go, although he comes home with about three or four times what’s on the list, and I love that he’s happy to do that but if I’m going to the grocery store, I’d rather go by myself.
Got gas, went through the drive through at the pharmacy to get what they didn’t have yesterday . . and now I am home!

Impressive to-do list…done! It does make me laugh, though, that you think doing all of these errands will get you out of going out again with Vince tomorrow!

I’m hoping it doesn’t rain this weekend, so I can get dirt to fill up my new raised garden box. Can’t wait to plant all kinds of vegetables! Want to try red potatoes too. I also hate running errands. Did the Walmart and grocery store run today. Crazy with people getting ready for Super Bowl. Hopefully won’t have to go back for a couple of weeks! Would rather quilt and get my flower beds ready for spring.

I did some of my errands today after work (I volunteer at a local food bank), and people were just crazy. Of course its the first of the month and you know how that is, so that just compounded it all. I left the rest of my errands for Monday.
When I get home, I just want to stay home.

So what’s the report on the painful tooth? Crossing my fingers for NOT another root canal.

I too hate to leave the house to run errands. Sometimes I even hate going out to do something fun. It makes for some interesting meals – I don’t have the stock you do, so putting together from what is available can be challenging. But I’m happy to putter around home and spend lots of time in my sewing area.
