The second root canal in two weeks is now done. Hopefully that was the last one for a while, especially since here it is January and I’ve used all my dental benefits for the year. My dad called me yesterday to ask how much a root canal costs. He had one in the sixties and I think he said he paid less than $70 for it. It was done by our local dentist in the small town where we lived. Mine was done by an endodontist in San Angelo with all the bells and whistles and latest equipment but it was well over $1,000. My local dentist told me there are three endodontists that he things are the best – one in Dallas, one in CA and this one in San Angelo. I’ll gladly pay for that expertise, plus this was through a crown and it’s one of the very hard crowns and I could tell even this guy didn’t like going through them.
January weather in this part of Texas can be a little unpredictable. We can have ice, or we might have a beautiful day with lots of sunshine. When I scheduled the appointments in January, I told the lady “I don’t drive if there’s ice!” and she said they understood and wouldn’t mind if I cancelled and rescheduled if there was ice. For both trips to San Angelo, we had great traveling days and I’m thankful for that. Yesterday, on the way home, I looked at the temp. It was about 4:00 and I thought . . January . . this is one of the things I love about Texas. July and August . . I’ll be whining and moaning about the heat.
I had two crowns, on teeth #2 and #3, that my former local dentist decided needing changing. I have no idea why . . they weren’t bothering me, but knowing Vince is going to retire in a few years and that will probably be the end of our dental insurance, I let him replace them and things went south from there. That was in March or April of 2016 and I’ve had nothing but trouble with those two teeth since the crowns were replaced so .. the root canals are done; I have a new local dentist and hopefully, will have no more tooth trouble for a while.
The first root canal took a bit over 2 hours but I slept through most of that one. Don’t ask me how I managed to do that but I was hoping to do the same yesterday but I didn’t. The second one took about 1-1/2 hours. I had wanted to go to HEB (a wonderful Texas grocery store) the first time we were in San Angelo but we went to Sam’s instead. Can’t go everywhere when we’re in a city! Yesterday we were able to go to HEB. I wanted horseradish root so I could plant it in the garden. Can’t seem to get it here. Got that and will keep it in the fridge til I can get it planted. It’s so nice to be able to go to a huge grocery store. I just wanted to walk around but I knew Vince was in a hurry to get home and get the dogs out. It’s a long day for them when they’re home alone from 8 til after 5.
I’m so hoping the dental issues are resolved for a while!

I know that’s a beating getting that done AND being gone so long. Will definitely have to place the info in the memory bank and hope I never have to ask who the endodontist is in Dallas. I HATE driving in Dallas but would go if he’s one of the 3 best!! Hopefully the end of major dental work for a long time!!!

I just ordered some Cafe DaVita sugar free mocha cappuccino from HEB. They had the lowest price on the Internet and my first order (went for 6 cans) shipped free saving me another $10. And they enclosed another free shipping coupon. Never heard of them before.
If their stores are as good as their Internet site you are lucky.

Thank goodness your dental care seems to have gone well. Here’s to a new year with happy teeth!

Being in Texas I always find I take it for granted that there is an HEB in every town big or small until we drive somewhere, I’m very fortunate that we have one just 2 miles from home. If I ever need a root canal it will be a bit of a treat if a person can say that lol. My BFF lives in San Angelo. But I’d rather see her during our (meet half way) annual vacation in Concan along the Trio. I’m glad everything went well with your trips to the dentist. I’m due for a filling that I’ll put off as long as possible.

I go in to the dentist on Friday. Not looking forward to it. My dentist is great, but I think I have lost part of a tooth. Doesn’t hurt, just feels different to my tongue and when flossing. I just retired and our dental insurance doesn’t cover much, because my dentist isn’t one of their preferred providers.

Oh, ouchie, Judy. I hope you are feeling ok now. I’ve had so many of those and they are no fun.
88 degrees. Whoo-ee! Too bad we can’t find a climate that is warm in winter and cool in summer. 🙂 We had a number of freezes in December here in northern CA. It has been a tad warmer in Jan and I noticed daffodil buds this morning. Nothing more cheerful than daffodils in late winter. (Late winter in our climate.) They should be blooming in another couple of weeks.
Take care!
