Almost every day that passes, Cat is getting more tame.
She thinks this hay bale is here for her benefit. Heck, if it makes her happy, she can have it. I think it’s warmer and probably softer than my car, though maybe a bit scratchy. Maybe I need to make a quilt to put on top of the hay bale for her. 🙂 That sounded like a joke but everyone else around here has their own quilt so Cat should too!
A couple of days ago I started my car. She jumped up, was very watchful but never jumped down from the hay bale as I backed out. Today I started my car, she turned and looked at me and otherwise, didn’t move a muscle.
I still cannot walk up to her and pet her. I will walk up to about 6 feet from her and stand still and she will come to me. My goal is that by June, I’m going to be walk up to her and pet her. It would be so easy with her on that hay bale but she’s very, very wary about me walking up to her. She still will not let Vince pet her though a couple of times, she has brushed up against his legs. That’s how she started with me so if he persists in his efforts, he’ll be petting her soon.
She is so aware of my routine. She sits on the hay bale and watches for me to come out the door late in the evenings. She knows I’m going out to put the chickens up. As soon as I walk away, she goes and waits on the porch for me to come back. I have to stop before I get to the porch and let her walk up to me but if I slowly walk towards the porch (after she’s moved from the porch) and I sit down on the steps, she will come and let me pet her. A few times she puts her paws up on my legs like she’s thinking about getting on my lap.
We’ve come so far in two years with her. I really like her and I think she likes me! 🙂

Did you wake cat? Or is the left(her right ) nearly closed? What an angel you are to Catt? I think it is a girl.

She had been sleeping and couldn’t hold her eyes open while I was trying to take a picture. Yes, I’m sure she’s a girl.

2 YEARS?!!! Hardly seems like it’s been that long!!
Joyce says
She does look like she’s thinking you disturbed her nap!

You sure are patient with her, but it’s paying off. She certainly looks better (even, perhaps, plumper*?) than she first did!
*Although that may be due to being huddled up.
Didn’t people used to sleep on straw ticking? 😉

Did I once upon a time read where you said you were not a cat person? My how time changes things! Both cats are glad you changed your mind.

Cat is a tortoise shell. that explains everything. when i first met Gus i opened the cage door at the shelter and she threatened my life. i took her home anyway. she lived locked in the bathroom for a month until she mellowed a little. 7 years later she would still let me know she was the boss. she’d sit on my lap but i couldn’t touch her. she slept on her own pillow next to mine. that was the only place she really let her guard down. i still miss her.

Sweet Cat! I always love your stories and pictures about her. She is lucky to have you and Vince taking such good care of her!
